Would Clear Mobile or GoMo SIM card work in a router?

I'm currently exploring options for cheap-ish internet for my parents.

I have just ordered Sky for them, however I am now wondering if a GoMo or Clear Mobile SIM in a router might be an even cheaper option.

I know Clear Mobile is capped at 5mb download speed, however this might be OK if they could still watch Netflix and YouTube

I know GoMo have a FUP - how strict are they on this? Do they start charging if you go over 120gb or do they throttle speeds? Is it still useable?

Appreciate any feedback or thoughts, thanks! :)

I have a GoMo sim in a TP Link 4G router in my parent's house for Sky/Netflix/Disney Plus

It works fine. They havent hit any cap - even when my brother kids visit and hammer it with ipads and such.

Wow, that's impressive to hear. I did consider GoMo but I know they have a FUP of 120GB or so and I think my parents would go over this.

I think I'll try a SIM and test it out, thanks

Both worked for me. I switched from Gomo to Clear due to a signal strength

What setup is it you are using? Do you have an exterior aerial? Where I live rurally there is no indoor mobile signal so it would need an external roof mounted aerial I presume? Not great on tech but would be interested in getting something cheaper sorted if possible.

My brother has used a €10 Gomo SIM for the last 18 months or so, in a Huawei 4G router, with external P60 aerials. The mast is about 9 km away.

    No issues in that time.

A few occasions he's gone over the 120 limit, speed drops back to 5 or 10 Mbps, he says he doesn't even notice the drop in speed in every day usage.

Buddy has set up a TP link router with a 48 SIM - 12.99 per month, 200gb data allowance.

Yes, both GoMo and Clear Mobile SIM cards can work in 4G routers, as long as the router is unlocked and supports the correct LTE bands. GoMo generally offers good speeds, but there’s a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) of around 120GB/month — after that, speeds get throttled but there are no extra charges. Still fine for browsing and light streaming. Clear Mobile is capped at 5 Mbps, which is usually enough for Netflix or YouTube in standard quality, especially for casual use like your parents’.

Also, GoMo SIMs — such as those with 0976 prefix in the Philippines — operate on the Globe network. If you ever need to check which network a mobile prefix belongs to, sites like whatnetwork.ph are handy for quick reference. Depending on your location’s signal, either SIM could be a cost-effective internet option.

OP just be careful. We as a family of 3 as using on average 2TB per month. In fact we used 2.8tb in december.120gb sounds very low when intended for streaming services.

three are unlimited but seem to cap speeds to 120mb which would be fine for your parents.

48 also under three for 12.99

GoMo have removed the 120GB FUP in the last few months and Clear Mobile have removed the 5Mbps cap also.

48 removed their FUP of 200GB also, they all seem to be removing their limits lately. They all probably slow speeds a bit after a certain amount of data is used anyway.

Three’s speeds are not capped, neither are 48’s. I’ve gotten 800Mbps on 48. They might become slower if you use over a certain amount of data but they are not capped normally.

Three seen to cap to 120MB and 48 to 40MB, still decent enough speeds for both for 90% of users unless your gaming and waiting all day to download a game.

And that’s after me downloading terabytes.

For anyone who has signed up from November 2024 onwards they have -

6.4A. For Customers signing up from 1st November 2024, fair usage data limits and/or data allowances referred to in this agreement, including in Clauses 6.4 and 6.6 or in any associated Fair Use Policy (‘FUP’), shall not apply to the Customer’s domestic data usage. We retain the right however to take appropriate steps for traffic management, where for example other users are likely to be adversely affected by a Customer’s actions.

They are also paying 50% more than original customers. I have 4 x €10/month accounts for my wife and 3 kids -120 gb is more than enough for most mobile users….- I have a work Vodafone phone that is free to me.

Yeah but 5G is missing on the old €9.99 plan, so that’s removal of the 120GB FUP and 5G for the extra €5 or €3 extra with 48

    Maybe for 1 account , I have 4 accounts and that extra €20/month goes toward Netflix/Sky Sports/Disney etc….
