What happened to his original pitch, the one he gave in an interview before he started the show?

Where's the "little more Punk"...the edgier Ryan...the "me in the pub Ryan"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,376 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

    That Ryan Doesn't exist.

I remember once, at the start of a new LLS season, he said it was going to be better, faster, more entertaining, yet it was exactly the same stuff as the previous years. Boring, boring, misery.

He is a one trick pony, that has been found out. His trick of feigning interest in people's misery, and pretending he was kind and caring fooled quite a lot of the country, mostly from a certain demographic, but a lot of us seen through it.

For me, he always appeared fake. The way he came across with the Charlie Byrne illness was the final straw for me, when he made it more about himself than Charlie. And then to disrespect the memory of Sinead O'connor to try to save his own skin when the country turned on him, was truly despicable.

Plenty of comments on YouTube for that “Times Radio” piece - setting the record straight as to why the lanky layabout got the run from RTÉ -

he was attempting to rewrite history in his interview.

TBH, I don't think he has any interest in anything beyond self aggrandizement and the size of his contract. I see practically every utterance out of his gob as a deflection........ from 'King of the Nerds', to the old fogey thing to wistful trips to Connemara, to the Toyman persona. All just angles to self promote, stay relevant and try to increase his earning power.

We can see that trend since the UK move. The constant hammering of books, books, books, the endless and almost farcical self promotion as a tweedy nerd complete with photos holding books on the street. It's all so transparent. Most people have little time to indulge an affectation. Their lives are consumed with work worries, mortgages, family, maybe a sports team. They couldn't give a toss about anything that goes on outside their front door. Nothing wrong with that if that's what floats your boat. Tubs is no different. Just an ordinary man. The problem is this obvious conceit that he is some mild intellectual who was the obvious choice to present flagship TV and radio shows.

Back in the day when RTE used to launch the Autumn schedule, with photos and so forth, he invariably said that the LLS was going to be better.

Sadly, it never was. Not under his tenure anyway.

I am trying to listen to this interview on TIMES RADIO with tubs The Evening Edition with Kait Borsay.

Kait must be bored by what he had to say !

1hr 25min in, same stuff again from him.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

Never in the field of human communication have so many words been used so quickly to say so little to so few.

I love.jeremy Clarkson's column in the sunday times. Some of it is laugh out loud funny. I couldn't see myself buying the MOS to read tubs' witterings.

There's a tiny, and I mean tiny, bit of me that feels sorry for him. He has no talent or ability and really did get the rte work purely on connections/being alive imo.

Only rte would put up with him, pay him a small fortune and attempt to convince listeners and licence paying public that he was worth it.

She got right into the scandal at least, his "all well documented " seemed a little narky

That felt interminable and I only listened for 10 minutes.

You can be sure that Tubridy will only take part in softball interviews where he can lay ground rules out beforehand.

He will never show anything even approaching contrition on the financial scandal. In fact he will go the other way and play the victim.

After all it was Sinead O’Connor who said “two weeks before she died” that he’d been “stabbed and punched and kicked around the place”.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,980 ✭✭✭jmcc

Listen to the interview and specifically listen to the tone of the interviewer's voice on her responses and questions. Tubridy misses it all. It was a bit of a carcrash inteview for Tubridy.

The "god damn her" bit of the interview was odd

Back in the day when some of us here were on the radio forum and critiquing Tubridy for all the reasons that are being discussed here today, except we didn’t know about the hiding of extra payment, barter account etc. but the fundamentals that lay behind all this were in place in the relationship RT and NK had with RTE, the ridiculous and obvious bigging up of mediocrity. I got some very threatening PMs from supporters of RT, was told “you are playing a dangerous game”. lol.

At the time I altered the html of an article about Ryan’s Charlie’s Mountain Climb, screenshot it for a bit of mischief and got into trouble for posting it! 🤣

To say he has NO talent is fairly disingenuous. He was never a world beater but if he was a bad as we are making out there's no chance he would have held his chatshow positions.

Ahh, hah, this is cringeworthy, and finally an opportunity for people to comment, 99% unfavorable.

And he's still putting out the Sinead O'Connor God in a hoodie stuff, the guy can't create new content in his own head. Shocking stuff.

    Edit: and Argos 🤮😂😃

The interviewer can't even summon up the guise of interest in him.

He claims he had only known about Argos through watching ads.

They were all over Ireland until last year.

I’m now stuck listening to him for the second ever time on Q104, no choice, it’s on in a waiting room 😱

    What interview was this?

    Did Tubs say that?

    Crumbs.

It was just a bit weird , he mentioned again about reading jk Rowling and kait made a joke about blaming jk for everything , and poor tubs tried to make a joke and went full sinister "god damn her" 😀😀

I'm sure JK Rowlings alleged "Transphobia" wouldn't sit right with Tubs' supposed "Kndness" persona. He probably dropped her name inadvertently, had a quick think about it. and started back-pedalling furiously
