Is the theft of catalytic converters no longer an epidemic?

It’s still high. Some of the most common cars for these thefts like mk2 Prius and mk1 Yaris are getting to end of life now though. Some cars have more precious metals in the cat than others, and some are more vulnerable than others. A lot of cars have the cat closer to the engine block now so they’re harder to steal from underneath.

Apparently it was one criminal gang doing this out of Dublin 15. Unlike their grinders, they weren’t the sharpest tools in the box. Kept all their stolen cats in one unit in an industrial estate as they waiting to offload them quietly.

Someone in the gang ratted them out and they lost a high 6 figure amount of ‘their’ stock to the State.

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer bunch.

Still, had a hand in causing a lot of misery though. Hardly a white knight.
