Agreed. I'd say the trade is more than likely 8k

Offer him €9K then and see if he bites. If you don’t want it for yourself, put it back up for €10K for your trouble.

I have no interest in buying the car, but this is a thread about bargains and as I said based on the current trade in values been offered that ain't a bargain

Honestly based on the prices I have seen with a 7 year old car, over 100k on the clock(so main dealer can't sell themselves) and a small battery I doubt he was offered 9k for it. The dealers are putting really low offers in, when I talked to one it was because the market is full of 40kWh Leaf's and you have to price compare against them

Depending on what car they are buying they might be hiding the trade in using the profit of the new car but still it ain't going to get it up to 11k

Credibility was lost when he said garage was taking as is, but he would get tires and nct done for private buyer. I'm the sort who would rather sell to a person than a garage for the same price, but I wouldn't be going out of my way to do it beyond putting up an advert. I reckon at 9k he would bite your hand off.

The garage will give 10.5 but if he produces cash he’ll probably get a discount of the car price

You may be offered 10.5k on a trade-in, the dealer is going to sell that for more than 10.5k. The trade-in price makes it a floor price. A private buyer getting it for the same as the trade-in is likely a bargain compared to buying from a dealer.

When I had my Mini up for sale, I had it advertised at a price around the dealer offer and would have been happy to let it go at the same as the dealer price. Not everything needs to be about making more money.

The key word in your post is 'around' . As previously indicated no dealer is offering 10.5k in 2024 for that particular car. Not withstanding it's condition and the money needed tidy it up.

    'Around' means 1.5 - 2k difference

2016 Kia Soul EV, asking €5k

Eyes wide open on this as the battery warranty is now gone and these early ones do not have the best reputation. A lot of car for the money though if you can get a chunk more off the price. I'd have one over an early Leaf. For starters it is not quite as ugly although some people would disagree there 😂

Garages are offered sh*t trade in’s at the moment, especially on electric cars and if over 100k kms they don’t want to know as they just have to push it onto another reseller

When you see Leaf 40kWh been sold for similar prices something is not adding up

That's not how it works, if it's not being retailed it's probably going straight to the trade, a trader had underwritten the 10.5k price or less, we don't know what he's paying for the new one so could be over paying on the price but getting a good trade in.

I'm not buying this good smaratain line, he's trying to get as much as he can for the car.

Why someone would try and sell a car for the same price as a trade in is idiotic, hand the dealer the keys and forget about it, I've seen private sales dragged through court over angry buyers, who needs that headache for no profit.

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

What sort of range do you reckon?

    And what sort of issues?

A 2019 /2020 i3 with say 30-40k on the clock (which is small milage) are asking a good 19-20k right now. While much more range than this, they’re still well behind say an ID3

If you’re only interested in local driving or shortish trips it just shows where the prices of these cars are heading when the much higher range cars start to age.

I think there’s going to be a period, hopefully quite soon, when earlier electrics command bargain basement prices simply due to low range of say under 100km.

I haven’t had such cars on my radar to date but “we’re” a two car household- my own car is 16yo and I want to replace it- the other is about 5 years old and we use that mostly- we don’t have a need for two secondhand cars “worth” 20k or more each - I’ll really have to explore this sector of the market - if I had that for 2 years and sold it for 3k I’d be thrilled - maybe not that actual car but you’ve put an idea in my head- BTW, I respect your views here so feel free to tear my thinking apart or provide me with some more food for thought

You'd be off your head spending 19k on a 5 year old I3. The ioniq above is a better purchase than either the seoul or i3

I'd probably take that if I wasn't paying for solar next week. Looks to be in great shape for the mileage

With more than a 150,000 miles there's no way I'd pay €10,000 for an 7 year old 28kWh ev. That's a lot of mileage and most likely a lot of DC charging in the cars life.

The Ioniq on the previous page with 1/2 the mileage for €500 more seems a much better bargain on the face of it. It does seem though Ioniq's are dropping in value and bargains are there to be had.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,072 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Why would there most likely be alot of dc charging ? Anyone can rack up those miles and charge at home.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 127 ✭✭Bannerman1969

I just think doing 35,000 a year in a car that can do circa 220kms at a 100% state of charge is a lot of mileage and a lot of charging and its likely a lot of DC charging included.

Saying that these Ioniqs seem to be holding up extremely well and would make the ideal second car with their bargain prices.

Easily done wexford to Dublin work and home charging. See Ioniqs driving up from wexford daily on the M11.

Hard to imagine the claim of 100% SOC could be meaningful given the mileage on it.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 40,380 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I thought this era of Ioniq had a large buffer and therefore very little degradation?

It has. That doesn't mean there hasn't been battery degradation, as soon as a battery comes out of the factory it starts degrading. Degradation is a factor mostly of cycles, time and circumstances of use

In Ioniq there was a buffer so the SOH can still show 100% after a long time / big miles. This means your usable capacity and thus your range is still the same as it was new. But it does not mean there hasn't been any / little degradation. Mind with a proper battery setup, degradation should be minimal. The mean degradation on a Tesla after 10 years and 100k miles is around 10%. Far less than the man in the pub tells ya 😂

I do about 28k klms a year and my commute is 70km round per day. The rest of my driving is the usual...shops, dropping kids, leisure etc. I have fast charged I think 3 times since buying the car 17 months ago. It wouldn't take much more daily driving to run up 35k klms per year and without a single DC charge needed. It looks a lot cleaner than the other Ioniq posted, but I would look at both before buying any, or none.

I know its easily done but charging 5 times a week on DC is also easily done. Only way to know is to talk to the owner. It may be the cheapest Ioniq around but it also has the highest mileage I've seen around.

I wonder what would be one the highest mileage 2017 Ioniqs in the Country. How many more miles realistically could the one for sale do. Would the battery and range be good for 500k in total? If that car could do the same mileage over the next 7 years then it's a bargain I suppose.

Sounds stupidly expensive way of running your EV tbh. Why would you...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 127 ✭✭Bannerman1969

If you were doing 35,000 kms a year which included numerous trips beyond the range of the car.

eCars was free of charge up until the end of 2019! Plenty of folks had free travel for years.

Back in 2017 when this car was bought, all DC fast charging (ESB) in this country was free and remained free for years. So could well have almost exclusively fast charged for a long time. I did the same myself as there is one of them around the corner from me at a shopping centre that I pass several times a day. There were only a bit over 1000 EVs in the entire country in early 2017, so you never had to wait either

Not that a lot of DC charging makes an awful lot of difference to degradation in most EVs. Another old wives' tale based on the effect of fast charging on Leafs back in Jesus' time, which didn't have any battery heating / cooling unlike pretty much any other EV made since then
