Cremation services

We used the services of the place in Ringaskiddy, cork.

Top class facility, very peaceful, serene, and very nice facilities.

Both my parents were cremated in a traditional service in Glasnevin, and I can only say good things about it - but what the OP is asking about is something different. These companies (Direct Cremation and Only Cremation) offer a service where the cremation is arranged and performed without any funeral ceremony. They take the body directly from the place of death (no embalming, wake or funeral) straight to the crematorium, then return the cremains to you in an urn. You can then decide to have a ceremony (or not) later.

In a direct cremation, the family don't visit the crematorium at all - the cremation may even be done out-of hours.

Didn't they say the same think about not having a "wake" anymore :) I have at least three childhood memories of having a corpse in the house where I grew up. Not something you can do these days.

My dad and I have been told that when he dies - that the old tradition of a wake might not actually be allowed. Depending on how he dies and a few variables.

My Dad's instructions are clear. He wants a "wake" at home. Like the old three day version. And i know exactly where his ashes have to go.

But the older he gets the more "restrictions" seem to appear on what we can do with him when he is gone :)

Yeah we don't take any of that seriusly. We are gonna do what my dad want's to do. But the more he talks about what he wants..... the more we get told we cant do it :)

Like most things - only online do people get annoyed about this kind of thing :)

Other half is a funeral director, be assured there's no rule against bringing a deceased home for a wake, he does it regularly.

Your dad can have his send-off as he wishes.

There were some extra rules during Covid, but AFAIK that's all gone now.

I heard people are just dying to use it.
