It is easy to poke fun at Pennys or Dunnes but they provide a valuable service in that they supply clothes at cheap prices to a lot of people. Sometimes even made in the same factories in the far east : I know a buyer who used to visit the factories.

Sometimes there is very little difference in the quality of clothes between those and so called trendy "designer brands". It is amazing how marketing and advertising can fool some people though.

I found the clothes in the middle isles of Lidl and Asda is rubbish though, in my opinion. Even for gardening etc.

I bought a few jeans in Penny's a few years ago, possibly because I don't wear them as much as the more expensive ones they have lasted. They were also quiet good on style which I was surprised by, I have bought dress shoes in both Dunnes and Penneys mainly because I don't wear them that much.

But Penneys value isn't there as much as before, at this point your better buying higher quality clothes as Penneys push up their prices. Also you don't always get the same style in penneys, bought good tee shirts in penneys, similar tee-shirts in Jack and Jones and TBH penneys have lasted and fit better. But I can't get the same Tee-shirts there now.

There cheapest runners at €15 are not value for money, your better just buying quality as in the long run they look better, last longer and are more comfortable.

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

I think if a man is skinny he can literally wear anything. When you are big and have a massive beer belly you need to buy decent clothes to try and

cover it up. I think then you need to spend a bit of money on well fitting clothes if you want to feel confident and look well.

If you think having a brand name on your clothing automatically implies a higher quality, you're a fool imo. The "How it's Made" episode on sunglasses couldn't have been more blatant in showing the same glasses being applied three different branding stickers at the end of the production process: two were "premium" brands while the other was one owned by a big discount store (IIRC, one of the premium brands was Dior and the discount store was the equivalent of Walmart or the like).

Naomi Klein's No Logo is 25 this year but clearly still very relevant.

The designer brands are made in places like that too. Even the apple i-phone is made in China. No trade unions out there!

Well Penneys is cheap. Clothes don’t last long. I find best value for money and good wearing is Dunnes. All other mentions Inhave got bargains. Real good bargains. M&S consistently expensive but in their sales i’ve picked up some good jeans and tops.

Penney’s great for socks and jocks. Dunnes great for training gear if you use the gym.

I’ve also used amazon. Got a great pair of Lee Jeans (remember that 80’s throwback) for 15 brick.

I've yet to find a T-Shirt that fits me half as well as a 6 euro "stretch/slim-fit" Dunnes one does.

My 5 euro jeans from sports direct (bought 4 pairs in various colours) still going strong!

Sure, I own some Tommy, FCUK, BenSherman, MichaelKors (etc) stuff... but the day to day 'cheap' stuff ain't to be laughed at.

If you google it, UNICEF will say " In Viet Nam, there are more than 1 million children aged 5-17 engaged in child labour,".

Think of that next time you wear your designer clothes.

I do. And replace them in one go every 6 months hence bought in Penneys.

They are all exactly the same type and colour which are black. I do the same with socks. All are the same brand and colour. Issue with socks are getting holes in the toes but easy to match them as they will all be the same.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

It's hard to tell who's poor these days, with all the people you think are poor walking around wearing knock-off designer labels. For example, there are probably more North Face jackets being worn than have ever been manufactured by North Face. 😛

Of course, some of the clothes aren't knock-offs, but the marketing of illicit substances allows some of them to wear the genuine articles.

The clothes alone do not make the man, the man makes the clothes

Well, technically it's the child that makes the clothes...

I buy in both usually dunces, the only issue is that very hard to get shoes or trainers in there since covid. I think the supply chain got disrupted and don't have big variety or enough sizes anymore

    Jocks from Tesco

    Jumpers from Dunnes

    Nuttin' from Penneys

I've bought Tshirts and jeans from Dunnes at €3 and €12 respectively. They're always made in India/Bangladesh. But then I've strolled into Marks & Spencers and they're €20 and €50... look the same, and also made in India/Bangladesh.

I once, just once few years back now, picked out a €50 jumper in River island. But I decided to go to Penneys first pick up some casual around the home ones. I found the exact same jumper for €10. It was identical I even went back to river island took photos of the tags the only thing they changed was river island had a sort of flat string for the hood and Penneys had a round one. The tags, detail was exactly the same.

So pay for your high fashion if that makes you feel better lol. It's all sweatshops.
