    It really isn't.

Months ago when push came to shove and I asked a number of posters the same question, on how should the IDF deal with Hamas, special operations was mentioned a few times.

Now, that that video appears to descibe one of those operations, the IDF are wrong.

At the end of the day, some people just hate Israel and no matter what they do or how they operate they are in the wrong.

Israel makes Russia look like a bully taking someone’s lunch money while it’s committing mass school shootings.

There'll be an Israeli disclosure soon that they were Hamas. If they were then no loss but if civilian then its another murder.

Not really, people want Israel to adhere to agreed norms of armed conflicts. We trade with them, other western nations actively fund them. It is not unreasonable to expect them to act within the rule of law and behave like the functioning democracy they claim to be.

Good call out, there is loads of fake news and propaganda on QNN.

The same people will seek to poke holes at Israeli news but will swallow the whole news emanating from Palestinians and Hamas.

There is no need for the deliberate dishonesty. You aren't a zionist spokesperson (that we know of) so there is no need to act like one.

Nobody is calling for extrajudical murder of defenceless people in hospital beds.

It's not the false dichotomy you present - "well if you don't want me to indiscriminately pulverise residential blocks of women and kids with missile strikes and yet you also don't want me to summarily execute people lying defenceless in a hospital bed in an area I have effective control over, then sure what can I do atall atall".

I've been trying to get that same logic through to them since the start. They just refuse to see the truth.

    This thread:

Something (an unverified tweet, a random article by a random journalist) that makes Israel look bad: "ABSOLUTELY THIS SHOULD BE ACTED ON IMMEDIATELY!!! HORRIBLE EVIL ISRAELI ORCS! BOMB ISRAEL! (yes, someone suggested that)"

Something that might make Hamas look bad: "Welll... there should be a full, detailed, lengthy investigation, we wouldn't want to rush to any conclusions... Like, Israel should've taken rape kits from the dozens (hundreds?) of women who were raped but didn't during a crisis, and did a bad job of handling the corpses, yadda yadda"

You should really ask your pal @blanch152 for their expert knowledge on international law...

The IDF can win, if they act within international law, and whilst having respect for innocent civilians and not to be indiscriminately bombing, nevermind all the murders/war crimes they are committing.

Whether you like it or not, murdering people in a hospital is a war crime. See in bold... Do you agree? Its a simple yes or no.

What kind of specific protection do the wounded and sick enjoy in times of armed conflict?

In times of armed conflict, the wounded and sick include anyone, whether military or civilian, who needs medical attention and is not, or no longer, taking part in hostilities.

Under international humanitarian law (IHL), all wounded and sick - no matter what party they belong to - enjoy general rights to be:

    • Respected (not to be subject to attacks, killing or ill-treatment).

    • Protected (a right to be assisted and shielded from harm against third parties).

    • Searched for and collected.

I probably should have directed this towards "Donald Trump" or Timberrrr, the one who keeps spouting Quds/Hamas/PIJ propaganda, but the simple fact is that anything on the Quds News Network is likely to be an inversion of the truth. So far as I am concerned, anyone who uses them as a source for anything really isn't credible, to put it mildly.

The facts are clear: Israel, like Ukraine, is in an existential struggle. Russia wants the Ukrainians dead or Russified, and the Iranians and many of the Arabs want the Jews dead. Both cases are not about some piece of territory or some desired compromise, both are likely to be fights to the death.

Both of those situations can only be dealt with by force and so far as I am concerned, anything either Ukraine or Israel has to do to ensure their own existence is fine by me. Of course, I would not be "happy" about collateral damage as some have suggested, but in the absence of an amicable resolution ...

One last point to clarify something which you appear to have gotten confused over.

Making the analogy between Israel and Russia is not done to defend either of them. It is to point out the inconsistency of certain people accepting that one is completely incorrect and wrong, while turning a blind eye to the other.

Where posters don't like it, it is usually because they don't want to have to deal with accepting the Russia excuses which are mirrors of the Israeli excuses that they blindly accept.

The consistent approach is to accept neither

Not really, people want Israel to adhere to agreed norms of armed conflicts.

    2 things.

This conflict is not a war between 2 nations. Hamas is not a nation-state, has a seat at the UN nor has diplomatic relations between other countries or institutions.

This is an asymmetrical conflict, that is Israel and the IDF are engaging a terrorist outfit that fights using civilians as cover, has no regard for civilian casualties, is embedded in Gaza under certain ministries and fights in the shadows.

Essentially you want Israel and the IDF to follow the rule of law, (whatever that is) by fighting an enemy who we all agree is not bound by any international laws, treaties and agreements.

If this is the do you concede the fact that

    a) This makes it almost impossible for Israel to conduct any operations against Hamas.

    b) Makes Hamas immune to being targetted.

    c) Hamas is operating outside all the laws of warfare.

Yes they do (point 2 is debateable when Israel is indescriminately bombing an area half the size of Louth).

Do we trade with them? No.

Are they supplied arms from the western world? No.

Do they have an obligation to adhere to rules of engagement? Of course they do, but they are also deemed a terrorist organisation and therefore unlikely to do so. Israel, however, masquerades as a modern, engaged and democratic state with diplomacy with the west. It is at the very least expected to adhere to the rules of engagement. In failing to do so it undermines not only their position, but the position of it's allies.

Israel's claim to be faced with an existential struggle is orders magnitudes lower than Russias identical claim

Your gaslighting attempts are no good here.

Perhaps, but the original question thus remains unanswered.

How should the IDF conduct its operation against Hamas in reality (Not Tom Clancy video games)?

Do you concede the fact that Israel is right to go after Hamas? If so, the question remains as to the How and Means this is done.

Really? Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, ISIS, Al Queda etc don't want to wipe Israel off the map? How should Israel co-exist with all the Arabs and Iranians who want them all dead? The same way Ukraine should co-exist with Putler's Russia?

The IDF can win, if they act within international law,

    How?

Gives us a synopsis of how Israel can win without having to bomb Gaza or target Hamas operatives in special operations...

Links to military experts who know what they are talking about, would be helpful here..

They executed 3 men in a hospital, it's a war crime, do you think we should be funding a country that blatantly carries out war crimes?

UNRWA had funding cut based on alleged confessions from people under interrogation (torture) that 12 people allegedly took part in the attack on the 7th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,857 ✭✭✭✭Timberrrrrrrr

So you think Israel should commit war crimes? Why did they execute them? Why didn't they take them away and put them on trial?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,857 ✭✭✭✭Timberrrrrrrr

Either way it's murder and a war crime, they should have taken them and put them on trial, this was extrajudicial killing by state operatives.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,313 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

The IDF goal is to kill Palestinians hamas is only the excuse.

I see you didn't even attempt to answer my fairly basic question, but the line above is rubbish.

Conspiratorial rubbish too. The IDF aka Jews are bloodthirsty etc, the enjoy killings, blah blah blah...

We all know that the IDF possesses enough firepower to erase every single Palestinian from the map in about 72 hours. If their goal and agenda was to kill them all, why have they not done it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,327 ✭✭✭✭Donald Trump

What Israel could start by doing would be approaching any operation as if the location was in Tel Aviv.

So, simple things. For example, suppose they suspected that there was someone they wanted to capture in downtown Tel Aviv. Well one possible approach to avoid would be that of pushing and corralling the rest of Tel Aviv's population inwards towards its centre, and then blanket bombing the sh1te out of them. Little things like that that might not otherwise cross their minds as probably not being the optimum approach if they wanted to retain some semblance of plausibility that their aim was not to kill the civilians.

The IDF are not the good guys they are just as scummy as HAMAS if not worse

    Rubbish.

When the IDF deliberately goes on a rampage, starts to burn families alive and beheads people, rapes scores of women and takes them hostages, then perhaps one can compare.

    Hamas are just like ISIS.

"Take them away and put them on Trial"

Do you think that is how Israel should conduct this war?

Take away all the suspected Hamas operatives and put them on trial? Do you see that as realistic?
