Probably the best time to face them if we have to.

I'd rather play them at home at that stage with them coming off a long trip to SA the weekend before at a time when they're likely still in a dog fight in their league rather than a neutral final when they'd potentially have the ability to rest players with no repercussions.

They won’t be coming from SA though, no?

Thought from the knock outs onwards, the SA teams have to play in Europe?

So its Leicester at home and if Leinster win, they play the winner of La Rochelle v Bulls (at home)

you posted : "Not if Toulouse don't beat bath with a TBP, which is in the balance at the moment"

See above - your post clearly implies that if they got a TBP Leinster would be playing someone apart from Leinster

& the other poster was incorrect about the neutral venue i.e. LAR have to travel to play the Stormers in SA - lets hope they have their Boks contingent back

Awful draw for Leinster. La Rochelle are playing really well.

Maybe but better to get them in the Aviva

I have to say you guys got absolutely screwed in that draw.

The way they’re playing, we’re going to have to beat them anyway to win this thing, so might as well be in a QF.

Are people writing off the Stormers at home?

Yeah, tbh. I thought they were outrageously fortunate to get the win in the pool stage against LAR. Got virtually every decision and had every bounce of a ball go in their favour.

Id absolutely love it if they can beat LAR, but I can’t see it.

Finally got a second watch of the Leinster game tonight - and think after a very shoddy start they came into it well and produced one of our better performances this season.

All of Caelan Doris, Tadhg Furlong, Josh van der Flier and Robbie Henshaw had good games, but felt James Lowe and Joe McCarthy were at another level.

Both players, in different ways, bring an invaluable level of physicality to Leinster’s play. Lowe’s power stretches defences in a huge way, and creates holes all over the place in multi phase attacks. His boot is also enormous, and I think he just brings an energy to the team that is invaluable.

Joe McCarthy is rapidly becoming my favourite Leinster player. To have a RWC winning lock like Ben Kay in commentary speak so gushingly about McCarthy and compare him to a young Eben Etzebeth you know he’s a special player. I love how he’s brought a bit of niggle to the pack as well. He has to be in the Irish 23 against France.

Final word for Harry Byrne who i felt had a very tidy game before another inevitable and unfortunate injury. He took a lot of punishment by taking the ball repeatedly to the line and getting smashed, but he kept coming and picked out so many great passes to split Leicester’s line. Coupled with his first half in LAR (before another injury) he was also excellent.

Meh. Gotta beat the big guys to win the comp. The R16, QF and SF will all (obviously assuming Leinster win the games) be in Lansdowne. I don't like the format but it's a high quality tournament this season imo. Few of the English sides have improved a lot, there are three contenders from France this season, and Leinster have demonstrated they can beat anyone.

QF at home is the absolute best time to play LAR. The win there will do mountains for their confidence and mentality.

yea but if say toulouse played la rochelle first then you only have to beat one.

That's rugby though! Bounces of the ball and the officiating. Stormers played well that day, imo.

Looking at the last 16. You'd be happy as a Munster fan. Players coming back from injury and not a bad pathway to the semi's.

Would have LAR very very slight favourites but think it will be quite close.

Will be shouting for Stormers but tbh another clash with LAR is pretty mouth watering. Really becoming a grudge match after playing each other the last few years.

Have to get through Leicester first obviously. Saw on Twitter they are without an attack coach since the start of November as Alan Dickens is on leave for personal reasons. Crazy for a professional team as big as Leicester to not have anybody in place for almost three months now.

I didn't actually think La Rochelle were great today. They took advantage of Sale mistakes and Sale were really poor imo.

Aldritt didn't play in the game in SA this year. He's a huge player for them. I'd expect la Rochelle to beat stormers even in SA.

They will have to travel to Dublin the week after and you'd just hope the travel/game takes it out of them

I just want the stormers LAR game to be a close and gritty affair either way.

I just watched this one. Good effort for Henshaw. He was very lively. The pack was fantastic. Seriously good showing! The penalty count? We're kind of loose with the discipline. How nice is it to sub off Joe McCarthy and bring on Ross?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

In S.A, La Rochelle will be playing in the heat? V a strong pack. This will be a massive encounter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

I think they're much tougher with Aldritt. World class player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

HB was excellent! Great confidence booster. I hope his injury is minor.

We were exposed a little on the blindside in the opening quarter. Seemed to have fixed it as the match played out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

Rewatch really picked up some good and some not so good. The big bonus here was Lowe and that howitzer left boot. He was top notch.

A really high level effort from the 2nd rows. Lost among everything is, how good Josh played. He's heating up!

Very pleased with the result and, generally, the performance. The attack is looking far more fluid and the Goodman launch plays are working a treat again. But also some good heads up rugby where we're spotting opportunities. Lowe makes a huge difference to our backline. His power in contact and kicking game transforms how we play in terms of punching holes as well as squeezing the opposition.

A lot of good showings, most of which have been mentioned already. Though the halfbacks went really well. JGP looking far more like his old self these last two weeks. His involvement for the Larmour try was typical of him. Passes from the ruck and three passes later, he's receiving the ball on the opposite wing to break into their 22.

HB was very tidy. His passing was effective, taking it to the line and causing their defence problems. Apparently he hadn't been in line to start and Frawley had run the week before being withdrawn on Thursday. HB was still carrying his ankle injury from the previous week. He did excellently to step in late in the week and steer things.

if we want to win the tournament, we need to beat the big teams. I'm completely happy with that draw. Getting LAR in a QF at home is probably the best case scenario particularly after they are going to do a huge trip to Cape Town. The games are back to back so I'd imagine they might just come straight to Dublin (assuming they win) rather than return to LAR for a couple of days.

The 6N will have a big impact on proceedings. We'll need guys to come through unscathed. We'll also have RB back in the saddle by then which will be a timely boost.
