just watched this interview and the most exciting thing he said was francis reminds him of himself because they have the same style

Of course not....Francis is a big man who can throw a punch, and AJs chin is far from concrete. But still I'd be thinking AJ dominates him, and probably stops him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,167 ✭✭✭✭blade1

Of course. He's fighting a novice. The pros might as well all quit if a novice is putting it up to them all.

Yes, I kind of agree....but you need to consider that Francis is not some lad off the street.

He's a career combatant, who has switched to boxing. His punch power (in MMA) is very heavy. It wouldn't be at all odd, or hugely surprising to think that he could KO seasoned HW boxers. After all, it's just a split-second punch.

But, barring this KO chance, I do concede that he has (or at least should have) little chance of beating (out-boxing) seasoned and talented heavyweights

Some, including me, gave him a KO chance vs. Fury. But nobody expected him to run Fury close on points. That was a real surprise. More to do with Fury not performing I think

He still looked like a novice in with Fury.

Makes McGregor look like Sweet Pea 🤣

Ngannou has certainly added something to the division with that performance against Fury but the likes of Hrgovic and Zhang must be raging. Has there been any word at all from Joyce, I’d have thought he’d be coming back by now. It’s an exciting time anyhow with all of these matches looking like they’re gonna be made

There’s strong rumours for joyce fighting kash Ali which is some fall in grace but after 2 defeats he needs to work his way back up and not many will jump in with him for small money in a low key venue

Yea he;s into nobody needs him except if there were a good card on he’d make a match for someone like Ortiz, Whyte, Ruiz, Dubois etc

Had a watch at Hrgovic Zhang again there and I think it was the right call. 115-112 about right for me. Thought the KD was definitely on the back of the head

I just watched this interview with Joe joyce talking about his next fight, I think Zhang messed up his brain he’s goosed

Yeah you'd be worried about him after hearing that interview.

    Gist of interview, lads?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,760 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

He’s fighting kash Ali in March, poor lad doesn’t even know fury is fighting Usyk next month, he makes Chisora sound fine

I'm sorry but I read your comments and thought to myself, 'oh no, I was afraid this might happen after Zhang' but then I watched the interview and he seemed perfectly fine to me. I'm wondering after watching it what you guys seen to come to the conclusion you have?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 KloppOn

Maybe it was his struggle to calculate how long he has been fighting. That could be a Maths issue I guess. But you are right, could be a bit of confirmation bias there.

There was a lot of noise in the background, he had to ask what the question was a couple of times because of the noise I presume. It's hard to concentrate and do math with a lot of noise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,760 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

the bloke asking the questions had no problem hearing what was going on it wasn’t that noisy, his train of thought seems to be shot he’s making hard work of simple sentances in my opinion, he makes Chisora seem coherent

Ah lads I dont think so. He’s only ever been hit hard by Parker and Zhang. He’s never been a good talker and it seems no one gets a hold of him to prepare him to deal with questions. He does a terrible job on the mike. He does come across as a nice fella if a little boring. 5 years ago the best he could do was “yea it’s the juggernaut, man.” Strikes me as not very intelligent like he should have been predicting the questions but he’s never played that game. If he doesn’t batter Kash Ali then we can forget about him

Saw him speaking there at a press conference on Queensbury insta and he seemed fine. Don’t think there’s anything to worry about. Having said that the defeats wont do much to help him. I’d say he takes KA out about 6 or so and then the next fight is key. Bound to be a rematch with Dubois at some point and in a peculiar way he needs it more than Dubois does. Yoka wouldn’t be a bad opponent for him I think he’d win that. Don’t see him fighting Parker again. He’d be a good addition to one of the bigger undercards and you’d expect that around Halloween they’ll all be out with belts on the line again

Joyce will look an old, stale shopworn fighter from here on in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,760 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

He should look amazing against kash Ali, hope kash doesnt get hungry like in the price fight

Yes, of course. Against tomato cans he may get away with looking ok

social media making a story about Opetaia only sparring five rounds with fury and leaving to go to Australia for his own camp

lots of stupid comments like he beat up fury etc, while it may sound strange to some people it is not unusual for someone to leave camp if its not working out and he has his won fight to prepare for

Kash has absolutely nothing to lose against Joyce. Joyce will come in sluggish and timid and in the early rounds could be vulnerable. It could all go horribly wrong overnight for him. Would be quite astonishing if Parker went on to have the better career after being KO’d like that. He should get past kash then the next one is tricky

Took a look last night at Lewis Holyfield I and II. I’d actually never watched them at the time and just always assumed Lewis was way ahead. Second fight was a barnstormer. Those guys fought at some pace. Lewis just about gets the nod for me with rounds but Holyfield gave him all he wanted in the middle rounds.

Joyce will get the win and I think Frank might cash him out then.

A rematch v Dubois seems the obvious option, I just don't see what other money fight is available to him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,487 ✭✭✭squinn2912

Yea he was miles ahead almost a shut out entirely. Second fight was very good

Joyce has taken one big beating. He shipped some big shots vs Parker and in Zhang I but otherwise he’s not taken a lot of damage. I suppose sparring could be another story
