20+ year old car as your primary vehicle. Who will insure?

I don't see why it can't be insured, at the end of the day cars were made much better and sturdier back then and one it passes nct your doing everything correctly so no reason why it shouldn't be on the road. Discrimination if your with FBD and they no longer willing to insure..?

If it’s involved in an accident, it’s write off right away, economically. More cost to the insurance immediately whereas newer cars will just be repaired.

Lower crash safety compared to newer cars so any injuries will be worse resulting in higher pay outs.

Probably a dozen other reasons they have too.

Not necessarily as user1998 pointed out lower cost to write off or scrap older car. Newer cars are like tin cans and I've known 2 to be written off but not that it looked like they should, rear axles, insurance wrote cars off they got book value and replaced them. If they weren't written off the value would have went at selling time or trade in, as soon as you mentioned accident & axle repaired/ replaced.

Its more economical to drive car for as long as its fit, Car bought new 20 yrs ago 25k over 4 yrs =16 yrs cost free, as long as its not costing you anymore than you would with newer car, ie nct, tax, insurance,tyres,service which you normally do each year.I don't see why its uninsurable.

Glad I switched from them to Allianz in my moribund deathtrap! Really ignorant and disrespectful attitude to have to towards long term customers.

I have a 2003 Corolla, bought from the Bangernomics thread on here 7 years ago, it's still going strong at 21 years old now and I'm insured with AXA for a touch over 500 quid.
