Cue Dermot Bannon, unfortunately I see he is on the loose again, so expect an early New Year appearance.

No Late Late tonight (the critically-acclaimed ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’ is on), but we can still enjoy the first kittehs and puppehs of 2024! 😊

IMO RTÉ have missed a trick (though when do they not)

TLLS with PK is running a few week less than that of his predecessor's format, why not introduce one off special programmes when TLLS is not on.

For example at the beginning of autumn a music show introducing the new season with the RTÉ CO, the Friday of Christmas a variety themed show with Christmas Music, and in the new year a review of 2023 and the outlook for 2024.

And rather then TLLS taking on the Eurovision bringing back the National Song Contest on Friday in Feb.

Give the shows to some new and existing presenters, to see who might be suitable to takeover from PK when he goes.

In any case this would have been a great opportunity to drop Eurovision from TLLS.

The lad organising the Eurovision for RTE was on Ray Darcy during the week. He said that was the original plan but things changed after Tubsgate.

Probably not the right thread but seeing Bannon on the prime Post news Sunday RTE 1 slot is very annoying. Have we only one architect in the country.. He's pure mediocrity. You look at rte player and it's full of years of his shows.

In most public jobs you buy a service there's a procurement process to stop such monopolies.

No offence but Bullshit, absolute bullshit. Ever year after we loss (fail to get on the score board) the same guys complains RTÉ has no money. Did he call it Tubsgate?

Lets hope we are successful :) BBC NI can help out and host it up in Belfast :)

RTÉ have a commissioning editors (what was once known as the Independent Production Unit (IPU)), they run rounds of commissioning. While not the same as the public procurement the system is open to anyone applying for a commission.

RTÉ will sometimes have a 3 year contract with production companies for a series, or they will just go for a year. But the system is largely open and transparent enough (as with everything), RTÉ spend about €40 millon on indo productions each year. At one point it was at 80m, they want to increase it to 60m.

@Eibhir a few notes on this interview, link below.

    1. He says he had wanted to move to a show across several weeks
    2. He says events outside of our control (actually those events were all to do with RTÉ and well with in their control, RTÉ just got out of control)
    3. Ye have to laugh, yeah!
    4. Selection process started in June (Wait so you just said that you'd wanted to move the show, but didn't all of this happen in June, so that was probably the shorts thought that anyone has ever had)
    5. They usual start in September, I would love to know what this guy does outside of the Eurovision.
    6. 380 entries receive boiled down to 60 and then got people to listen, any eurovision fans get to listen?
    7. He knows how to use excel
    8. 5 with the Wildcard being about who's who, when did their entry arrive ?
    9. PIL and Wild Youth both being wild tracked last year (that worked out)
    10. He approached them and they came back to him (yeah very fair)
    11. no science, at all, I like some other like some, Europe likes NONE
    12. Future, should be stand alone but it all depends on finances (why what happened, what happened, did something happen, I wonder what happened)
    13. We look down at the Eurovision, making it credible (just not in RTÉ, honestly I have watch Eurovision over the last 3 years, first year was quiet good and surprise, last 2 years not so much (maybe I only watch 2 years), I won't be going back it wasn't that good TBF).
    14. Boycott due to Israel, its shocking, we are a public service broadcasting service (expect what happened back there in June)
    15. Same as we did last year, I think! International Jury, National Jury and Phone Vote
    16. Weighting of the vote is spelt weighting not waiting, why explain this?
    17. 6 finalist will be announce on Ray D'Arcy
    18. TLLS will have a eurovision.
    19. Are you hopeful ....
    20. Is Kevin Bee hopeful :)

COME ON IRELAND LETS BRING THE EUROVISION BACK JUST TO F WITH RTÉ

You’d nearly think that they're deliberately trying to do badly so they don't have to host it Ted???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 855 ✭✭✭supereurope

RTÉ has been doing such a fantastic job of doing badly at Eurovision for nearly 25 years now, so they no longer even need to make an effort, it just comes naturally.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,240 ✭✭✭RoTelly

I have never been so invested in Ireland winning the Eurovision 🤣

After 25 years hopefully there is a new generation in Montrose who do not have PTSD from winning two years in a row.

I would be happy if we could get a half decent result, at least get into the final!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 855 ✭✭✭supereurope

    Three years in a row!

Yes, we need to make it back to the final...we've a few years yet before we match the Netherlands' record for non-qualification, but we're getting closer every year.

Anyone else see those weird ads on Twitter with a picture of his interview with Alistair Campbell, saying something like 'the authorities tried to stop this interview but it was too late' or some nonsense like that.

Scam, I seen an article supposedly from the Independent.ie posted about it, but never clicked on it. They can spoof the web address they seem to be hosted on too...
