    Yes, absolute maverick. She properly broke the glass ceiling for female djs/journalists, and she remained very relevent/current (while never losing her roots) Had privilage of being at a few of her nights at various festivals and she always picked a wide variety of tunes and knew how to work the crowd. RIP

    Extraordinary career at Radio 1. I was fascinated that she kept up with the very latest "street" musical trends right into her eighties.

    Jayne Middlemiss paid a beautiful tribute to her on her show today.

    From my own viewpoint and similarly as a listener to Radio 1 in the 80's Annie would just come on cool as a cucumber and say "Hi" and bring the cool and the vibe with her to everything she touched. The later at night Annie was on / longer the drive the better.

    Because Annie stood for new music its hard to fathom she was 83 and b) is gone at all.

    There are elements of her too in Patsy's character (Joanna Lumley) in the brilliant Absolutely Fabulous.

    Rest in Peace, Annie.
