And then went off in a huff and had another media rant in the afternoon where he covered all the hits , including repeating (again) the defamation of E Jean Carroll by claiming to have never met her and that she is lying.

He's in court again in a few days for the last time he did that so I expect they'll either use his latest outburst in that hearing or simply sue him again.

Haley is hoping Trump is disqualified, or setting the ground for a 2028 run. VP slot not available to her.

Considering Leticia James revised her damages figure from $250 million to $370 million, that tantrum could have cost Trump $120m. The quintessential 'chat sh!t, get banged'

And particularly when the judge decided to not allow Trump to speak in the closing arguments because they wouldn't agree to stick to the facts of the case, not disparage the court or the AG, and not turn it into a capaign speech, and Trump decided to speak without authorisation and do absolutely all of the above....

There's no point in the judge pussyfooting around it or trying to go purposefully low so as to not be seen as biased against Trump. Trump has absolutely justified why the maximum (or close to) figure for damages should be applied.

Withdrawing the business licence is the real hit. A court appointed executor waiting in the wings to sell off some of the assets to pay the debt.

Closer to home, Doonbeg could be involved in that liquidation of assets

I kinda hope that the next Trump reality show will have a storyline similar to Schitt's Creek.

i cant see how a ruling in a new york court will affect his assets outside the US.

The recovery of whatever the fine is will likely reveal the real truth of how little he's actually worth which is a huge part of his anger here.

He is so heavily leveraged that he could have to sell pretty much everything he has to generate the sort of cash required to cover the fines.

He will also likely try to use campaign money to pay the bills as well so hopefully the FEC jump on him for that too.

The meltdown will be of utterly epic proportions as absolutely nothing matters more to him than his money and his outward projections of wealth.

Because aside from the retraction of licence to do business in new York, he'll have a $370m fine to pay, he definitely doesn't have that level of liquidity

Exactly - He'll have to produce the cash , which he categorically does not have.

Even if the properties he owned were worth the stupid valuations he puts on them , they are all so heavily mortgaged that the net cash he'd end up with after a sale will likely not add up to the possible $370M he needs to find.

Then when you take into account that everyone will know he needs the money so they will low-ball the hell out of him , he could end up having to sell EVERYTHING to actually net the potential fines he is going to incur and still fall short.

ah, I thought you were saying the ruling would directly affect his foreign businesses. Of course there is the issue of how much of the foreign businesses he actually owns. I suspect not as much as he claims

I have wondered if Doonbeg suffers from its name containing Trump's name; anyone ever stayed there, get a sense of how popular the resort actually is? I consider those golf resort hotels something of a total blight on the countryside - but would "Trump" be poison to its success?

The biggest damage that will come out of this for Trump will be the full and complete audit of his actual net worth which will be done by the court appointed liquidator as they work out how to extract the fines from his businesses.

They will show that he is not now and likely never has been an actual "billionaire" and that he is only worth a fraction of the money that his father left him all those years ago.

When is the court due to deliver its ruling? Is there any indicative date?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,726 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Think I saw something say it would be expected approx. 5 days after closing arguments, but not sure if that's 5 business days, or indeed if where I saw it from is accurate. So I'd say by the middle of next week is likely. Ultimately the court has already found against Trump, this is just about how much the damages are.

Edit: I'd be more inclined to trust QD's post below, I'm likely incorrect.

The Judge said that he would try to deliver the verdict before January 31st , but that wasn't guaranteed.

So 3-4 weeks time at the earliest..

I was refencing this update , there's a quote from the Judge saying

“It’s up to me now,” Judge Arthur Engoron said before adjourning the court. Engoron said he will try to deliver his final ruling by Jan. 31. But there is “no guarantee,” he added.

I read online that as TV companies are not covering his rallies, he's turning up to the court cases so he can spew his bullshit there.

He could be in Iowa, yet he's in NYC.

A prime opportunity for all stations to ignore him. Take the power away from him.

The show cannot go on without an audience.

I actually played that golf course before, but back before Trump was a politician. Honestly, I wouldn't go there now. The thoughts of contributing money to his business actually sickens me, even if it does provide employment for the area down there. Its a fabulous golf course.

Or , if he was a normal human he could be with his wife as she grieves the loss of her mother or even with his youngest son as he grieves the loss of his Grandmother , who it's reported he was very close to and spent a lot of time with her.

But no , more important for him to be on TV spouting lies and nonsense.

You beat me to the punch on this point. He could and indeed should be at least cultivating the image of supporting his wife in her loss. That he can abandon her to her loss whilst he campaigns via court rooms? Should honestly scuttle him with anyone purpoting "Family Values".

I think Trump being nowhere near Melania is probably what's best for her and what she wants & needs.

And that applies even regardless of her mother's death.

Don't disagree , but the optics are awful.

I was going to say that he could take the kid off somewhere to take his mind off stuff , but I don't think I have ever seen a photo of him doing typical Father/Son type stuff with any of them.

In fact I think the only photos I've ever seen of Trump with his children when they were young are those slightly creepy ones of him with Ivanka.

"If Ivanka wasn't my daughter, maybe I'd be dating her" - Donald J Trump.

    What a guy.

Remember hydroxychloroquine? That apparent wonder drug Trump kept promoting despite no evidence it had any effect on COVID; all while he was whirling about in panic?

    Yeeeaah.

Turns out those who took it were more likely to die of COVID; Trump's tenure during the pandemic was an exercise in dangerous incompetence - and now there's scientific evidence his waffling was probably dangerous. Well, ya know. Other than touting the drinking of bleach.

What was the Mary Trump connection? (bottom left of pages).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,699 ✭✭✭✭ancapailldorcha

Former president Donald Trump has sued his niece, Mary L. Trump, and the New York Times over the publication of a 2018 article detailing allegations that he “participated in dubious tax schemes … including instances of outright fraud” that allowed him to receive over $413 million from his father, Fred Trump Sr., while significantly reducing taxes.

The suit, filed in a Dutchess County, N.Y., court on Tuesday, alleges that Mary Trump, the New York Times and at least three of its reporters “engaged in an insidious plot to obtain confidential and highly-sensitive records” about the former president’s finances. According to the lawsuit, Donald Trump suffered at least $100 million in damages as a result of the alleged actions.

In her book, she says he complimented her on her breasts.

I am really conflicted about Doonbeg. I have a strong family connection to the area. A great source of employment to the local area. Other pubs and restaurants in the locality benefit from its existence. I have played golf a couple times before Trump's arrival. The place greases the wheels of the local economy. Odious owners.
