Best network to keep number that you don't use much

Have my old number that I don't use much but would like to keep it active as I use it for WhatsApp and get the odd call on it. I have a work phone now for last 5 or 6 years which I use now nearly all the time. so what's best network that I could top up ones a year and forget about it.

I haven't topped my Tesco mobile for a couple of months & it still receives texts. Any idea how long it will keep doing this before needing to be topped up?

I think it's 2 years once it is being used (i.e. someone rings it).

thanks, I was about to ask the same question.

I see that you can top up just 5 or 10 euro and that does NOT trigger a package and you can use the minutes as you need them @30c per min or so, or add €15 and youve a HEAP of data for use in Ireland and unlimited minutes.

What I dont see is info on how to sign up. Do you just buy the sim and install it or do you need to ring up and do some sort of online video call thing with ID?

Also, is there any other operator which has a pay as you go e-sim for Ireland which you could top up now and again but doesnt go dormant after a couple of months of non-use ?

Vodafone shows eSIM listed as an option when ordering a PAYG SIM online.

Top up by €5 every 8 months to keep SIM active.
