Wasn't an aggressive challenge, no force, not particularly dangerous IMHO,his opponent wasn't endangered. Having studs up in and of itself isn't a red card offence, unless it endanger an opponent. I can see how the ref might have thought it dangerous initially, but on video review it wasn't dangerous at all.

A red card for that challenge effectively outlaws almost all slide tackles.

That’s it. The media are going on about slow motion being the problem. But we all watched it both real time and slow motion, and the slow motion made it clear to 95% of us that it wasn’t a red card!

‘The narrative ‘slow motion makes it worse’ is a load of nonsense. To judge it properly you need to look at both real time and slow motion, being aware that slow motion is slow motion! This was a poor decision by the VAR official exacerbated by a weak ref who was clearly going against his own judgememt

He didn't actually miss the player. Watch the replay.

You can do a slide tackle without having both your leg locked straight and studs up. You can lead with your toe if you want to nick the ball. Personally, I don't think DCL can give out about this one. At no point can he guarantee Clyne's safety there. He catches him minimally, on the shin, but that's more down to luck than anything else. If they don't give a red here, and be consistent, players will feel they have carte blanche to go in with studs showing. The rule is either "excessive force" not here, or "endangering an opponent" and I think that's why its a red.

If Clyne's foot is planted here, or a little more to the right, this is a lot worse.

There is no force in the tackle. It's not dangerous at all, but we differ, and that's OK.

As a pool fan I thought the Jones tackle in the Spurs game was never a red but slow motion and still pictures make it look a lot worse. That tackle last night is never a red for me but again slow motion and still pictures make it look a lot worse. The reviews should be in real time, if it is a red card it should look that way in real time.
