I don't know where we're going, but we know where we are? (Part whatever)

When I hear things like that I'm pretty glad not to have kids. Endless stress and hassle! Lol 😁

OH off to get the food for Christmas Day sorted. Doing a big clean of the gaff today and then off to see if I can get some more crackers. Then I have to get the presents wrapped. 🎁 🎁

It'll be an intimate, quiet Christnas with just the two of us for dinner and a couple of mates hopefully dropping over later in the day. We had originally planned to get away to Malta for the festive week but have now postponed that holiday to Easter.

    Christmas Eve eve today! 👍👍

I think we go absolutely ape **** in Ireland when it comes to Christmas. I actually do think it's fear of famine and poverty that's in our DNA.

Intending to go to Tesco when it opens in the morning at 7am hoping everybody else hasn't the same idea.

It must have been packed today and tomorrow. Dreading the thoughts of it.

The covid/toilet roll thing absolutely boggled me

Let me reassure you, it's not just Ireland. It's the same in Germany.

I still remember that, after my parents had moved away to a new city, the last few days before Christmas would always be a mad dash of trying to get the last few gifts, the last few missing ingredients for our Christmas dinner (they were hard to get even in Germany), and other bits and bobs, with the "Regionalexpress" service home often resembling the last chopper out of Saigon. Mind you, stores are closed on Sundays in Germany, and I was already working full-time in a call center at the time, so I often didn't really have a choice when to shop, and as a consequence, it became something of a Christmas tradition. That continued even after I'd moved to Ireland (and learned how to play Apple's Time off system to my advantage to get around the holiday blackouts 😉), so I'm speaking from some experience here 😁😬

For me, the holidays didn't really start until I sat down in that ICE or TGV train from Frankfurt to Mannheim, or the EuroCity train from Austria back in my school days, which is usually when the stress began to fall away. I guess that's also why "Driving Home for Christmas" has such a special meaning for me.

Anyways, apologies for the rambling. Made it home from town, got everything I needed & more, and the last red wine cake for the year is currently in the oven 😋

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Was out walking today, and someone had just cut the grass somewhere. It was the greenest, freshest cut of grass ... And this is in the middle of winter. Also, flowers on a cherry blossom tree.

I’d say its more we get in our heads everything will close from 6 o’clock 24th and won’t reopen til Jan 2 at earliest.

Nowadays of course the shops are back from Stephen day and even open NY! Christmas was once a week long affair and if you were stuck for something you stayed stuck

"ståde Zeit" (southern German/Austrian dialect for the "silent time"

I love that name, and I'm looking forward to plenty of ståde zeit.

The great Christmas clean up is done, presents are wrapped and I'm fit to collapse. Going to have a lie on tomorrow ahead of all the madness.

It's a Celtic tiger enshrined load of greed that has made a comeback recently. Corporate and media driven frency. Money money money. Personally I believe Christmas is for kids at this stage. Adults hi jack it. If your religious fair enough.

Stayed at home all day. We had a lovely lamb dinner and watched Die Hard 1 and 2. We often did this in July. Stay cool folks!

@SuperBowserWorld that was probably a winter flowering cherry, some blossom at this time of the year.

I'm flat out after spending the day cleaning, but place has a nice feel to it. Looking forward to seeing some family and catching up with some reading over the ståde zeit

At least the reward is a nice few days to just eat nice food and enjoy each others company.

    Happy Christmas Eve everyone 🎅

Same to you and yours Mam.

I'm gonna take a spin into town later. I reckon it will be quiet enough. Don't really need anything but an oil ramble is required.

Big discussion here about how many potatoes are required to feed 12 people, OH doesn’t agree with my calculation of 1 KG per person :):)

@I says , I'd say a lot of people have forgotten about that!

@Grandeeod , it's the one day of the year that I don't go anywhere near the town!

@smurfjed there's no such thing as too many potatoes 🥔🤣

Watching the rooks, gulls and starlings and listening to my tunes. Taking time away from the all the noise. Even have a packed lunch and a flask of tea. Glorious. ❤️
