Generally you can't get cashback on a revolut card

This sounds very strange... first of all I'd be surprised that you could put numbers into either field and second even more surprised that they would actually try and process the garbage you but in the fields in order to execute a transaction. I have seen systems where it is documented that account numbers etc.. can be placed in distinct fields in order to get a transaction through, but it was documented as such. Did someone instruct you to do this or do you have a link setting out how to do this? If not then I'd say it was a happy coincidence and I would not rely on it working in the future.

Anyone else no longer getting instant notifications of activities on Revolut.

    IE payments, withdrawals, deposits etc.

One of the best things about Revolut is the instant notifications. Not sure if it's something I did or something they changed 🤔🤔

They're still working for me. I just got notification of a direct debit payment about half an hour ago - and yes, it is a great facility.

    Strange or not, it worked.

I've paid my BOI Mastercard from Revolut for a few years now, it was only when I got a new card number that it wouldn't let me set it up the 'old way' which was just the card number in first name field and surname in second name field.

This 'new way' seems to work and worst case BOI can't apply the funds in the future they will reject and send back to my Revolut. If it worked once it should work again as there's nobody manually checking the inward payments to BOI.

Notifications still working for me too, it's a very handy feature too.

I change AIB and Revolut apps to a new phone and transfer is no longer instant. Can take hours.

An old Huawei to samsung a21s.

Most likely you’ve chosen bank transfer instead of your visa debit card. AIB have never supported SEPA instant.

Probably discussed already but anyone notice a sneaky "weekend charge" on Revolut?

I bought something on Amazon over the weekend and noticed there was a weekend charge of 1%. Not much but I find it bizarre that there is a tax, weekends only, on using your Revolut and AFAIK they never made people aware of this.

They've done that for a long time. Nothing sneaky about it. Its quite clear when you click the info window doing an exchange.

It details exactly what the charge is for when you're making a transfer on the weekend - the currency markets are closed so it's to cover any potential fluctuations between close of business Friday and market's opening again on the Monday.

    From the app:

Not sneaky as it's clearly stated in the terms, but you not knowing what you agreed to may appear as sneaky to yourself 🤷‍♂️

Its not sneaky but it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Using their logic of applying the weekend rates when markets are shut, they should also apply the charge outside of NY business hours.

Sure public holidays aren't impacted either and markets are shut then too.

The forgein exchange market runs 24 hours a day during the week. When it’s open in Tokyo, it’s closed in NY and vice versa.

The market only closes on weekends when they have the charge. The charge only exists for the reason they give. Of course it makes sense.

It’s always been there. It might have been 0.5% initially and I’m not sure it was explicitly shown in the app but they definitely have added a percentage to exchange transactions at the weekend for as long as they’ve been active

It has always been there and to be fair to Revolut, it is clearly documented in their documentation about foreign exchange - or at least was when I first started using Revolut a few years ago. I'm not a cheerleader for banks, but in this instance, to call the charge sneaky is rather unfair. The charge makes perfect sense. Easily avoided by doing your exchange during the week.

Not really given they seem to be observing NY hours only, as you correctly say the markets are open outside of NY hours elsewhere even when it's the weekend in NY or even Dublin.

Anyway...like others have said it's always been there.

Revolut doesn’t just trade in NY. It trades on any open market at any given time. It only passes on the cost for the brief period where no market is open. It very clearly makes sense.

They're not observing NY hours only though. Or do you really think money markets open in NY at 6pm on a Sunday evening (when the charge ceases)? It just happens that they're expressing the times relative to NY, and maybe NY is the westernmost (and thus latest-running) market available to them, but the end time on Sunday evening is the opening of the markets in a country much further east.

I'm sure if they cited say 5pm on Friday evening in NY until 9am Monday in Sydney we'd have complaints that they were being deliberately confusing by working in two different time zones. Not to mention that it's far easier to implement such rules programmatically when it's all done relative to a single timezone!

Apple/Google Pay doesn’t require an internet connection. Two years working retail I quickly noticed this is a common misconception!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,862 ✭✭✭cython

Seemingly (not an apple user myself) some iPhones have a capability to use Apple Pay even when the battery is too low to use the phone in a normal fashion, never mind requiring a signal: https://support.apple.com/en-ie/guide/security/sec90cd29d1f/web

Both systems are deliberately architected and designed to not require connectivity from the customer device, though they do so by different means.

If anyone could point me in the right direction with this issue, it would be appreciated, new to Revolut , got ac validated online and downloaded the app.

Trying to add money, tried via Apple Pay, got payment failed notification!

then via debit card - same issue, then via AIB, app connected with AIB, I put in a transfer, truelayer.com window opened but page keeps spooling.

No payment credited , Revolut app says “payment reverted” “sent without reverence” the transfer then anrrived back in my bank anccount, anyone know if this is a Revolut, AIB bank issue? Or have I missed something?

There are sufficient cleared funds in the AIB account
