    Hi

have a cassette stove in our home, we probably should have done some stone work around it when building but didnt so it was just slabbed and plastered around it , now we light it a bit more than we expected we would and the plaster has cracked up a bit..anyway jsut wondering if it would be ok to surround stove with something like reclaimed pine planks just to dress it up a bit and hide the cracks? will add pic if i can

The plaster is likely cracking due to the heat. That's also why you have that blackening of the wall. You may need to check the guidance for the stove if it mentions any restrictions on wall linings, surrounds.

Wood effect tiles, if you really want to go down the wood route would be a good choice here as any wood is going to take on that scorched look over time and be a significant fire concern, in my mind.
