Yeah think 24 hour electricity rate was showing as 30.45c and it says below all prices are inc vat. Assume that means unit rate too.

Does anyone know when the first energy credit will be applied? Next bill is due by direct debit at beginning of December and would be nice to have it for then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,230 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

it is meant to be applied in december but i am sure last time it hit people at different times

    The internet isn’t for everyone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 881 ✭✭✭amdaley28

It should be applied to your account on Dec 1st.

    After that January 1st & March 1st 2024.

Last year it was applied on the first working day of the applicable month by BGE. Previously with Aurtricity they pulled a fast one on some customers and waited until the vat rate fell to apply the credit doing customers out of a few euros.

Everyone got 200e after tax, how did SSE Airtricity gain from the credits and the vat rate change?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,571 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

If the bill is already made up you won't get the credit they'll request the billed amount from your bank. The credit will apply to the next cycle.

There is a long winter left for prices to go up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,986 ✭✭✭bren2001

Nah, suppliers have locked in their gas prices for the winter. I'd be stunned if prices went up.

Prices are expected to fall further in 2024 but that's subject to a normal winter and nothing abnormal happening.

The first credit in 2022 was €176.21 plus vat. Some providers paid €200 including vat at 13.5%. In my case I got €192.07 from SSE in May 2022. Other providers paid the credit in March 2022 at a rate of €200.

We're SSE able to pocket the additional €7.93?

I'm struggling to see how you are out of pocket. You got 176.21 off your pre VAT bill like everyone else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,922 ✭✭✭Cape Clear

Given I didn't get it I doubt they paid it back to the exchequer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,986 ✭✭✭bren2001

You said they 'did a few customers out of a few euro' by 'pulling a fast one' (tenses changed but context the same).

They didn't pull a fast one on you or any individual. You got the correct amount taken off your bill. You got the same as me and everyone else.

For SSE pulling a fast one on the government (in no way on you), i very much doubt they gained anything from it. It's likely they didn't receive €200 from the government, they received €176. Either way, it's speculation and the government are not stupid enough to hand over money like that.

Either way, the correct amount was taken off your bill. You got the exact same benefit as everyone else.

How does the Indo fall for this spiel?

Yuno said this fixed rate is 5% cheaper than its previous lowest rate and makes it the cheapest supplier in the market. The new unit rate for electricity from Yuno is 31.55c/kwh

They must have a very good pr agency and Charlie Weston simply is too lazy to check facts.

The rates are ok and very similar to EI and SSE, but with yuno you pay in advance.

Yuno shout about their discounted rates and compare them to the highest possible standard rates in the market. They very much fail to mention, unless you read the small print, that after 12 months you move to their far more expensive standard rates. So to have a fair comparison you need to compare all generally available discounted plans against each other.

Their rates are ok, but remember they are temporary discount rates and you have to wrangle to change in 12 months to keep the lower rate (as you do with others). But don't believe the marketing hype that they are substantially cheaper. There's a tenner in the difference over the year v EI and about €20 over the whole year v SSE. Not worth it for the hassle of prepayment and overly managing the account

Completely incorrect my benefit was €8 less.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,230 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

Charlie Weston was just on the radio telling everyone that yuno will save people 3-400 euro and the other companies will have to fall into line

it’s like a paid advert for yuno

    The internet isn’t for everyone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,986 ✭✭✭bren2001

You received the same discount as everyone else pre-VAT which is the only fair comparison. I paid €8 more in tax then you. I got that €8 waived. You received the same benefit as me. It is primary school maths.

There are plenty of ways companies screw people. You don't need to manufacture an injustice.

I have been with Bordgais for my Gas and had 16% discount. Today I called them and got 25% discount (Black Friday offer) for next one year. I hope this will help a few.

I heard it, such drivel... I'm paying 29.99c per unit, BG had a black Friday offer, actually today is the last day, giving a cheaper rate than yuno and BG are a proper billpay company, no sneaky stuff like activating smart meters, paying in advance etc etc. I think the bold Charlie is a bit of a skim reader...

Thanks for that. I signed up last week at 15% so I'll contact them today regarding the 25%

is weston not just comparing to what is on websites, he cant factor in discounts people get over the phone or discounts people got 6 months ago.

EDIT see black Friday deal on bord gais site. That must be cheapest advertised.

best smart plan seems to be bord gais 25% off free saturday that I can see?

Urban Day units (8am to 11pm)

    43.04 32.28 cent per kWh

Urban Peak units (5pm to 7pm)

    52.58 39.44 cent per kWh

Urban Night units (11pm to 8am)

    31.63 23.72 cent per kWh

    Annual Standing Charge

    €237.56

EV one is good, but I don't have one and the standing charge is large

Thats what I got with Energia on a 12 months contract, the cheapest I could find. Electricity only.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭newincity

There is a fair usage cap on this plan which is 100kWh per month which translates to 30 Euro a month.

Is there some capping with Electric Ireland weekender plan?

Thanks that looks even better perhaps, do you have a link for it, it's not on their site?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,119 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tar.Aldarion

Pretty sure there is a cap on all of them, I would't use that much anyway.

I switched both electricity and gas from Electric Ireland to SSE Airtricity on Nov 7th.

I got a closing bill from EI for my gas with final date being Nov 16th and I got a bill for electricity from EI showing I am still on their system and being charged at the higher out of contract rate. I gave meter readings to SSE for both on Nov 7th. Previously when I switched providers I think the billing by the new provider started the day I switched or very close to it. Is this what has happened for others?

I phoned SSE and the lady said it is in the process of happening….. My concern is that EI may get my upcoming government credit on Friday and then I’ll end up chasing them for it when really I should have been switched sooner and the credit going to my actual supplier. It’s 3 weeks tomorrow since I made the switch.

Any ideas /comments welcome . Thanks.

Nope, Im with Energia for the last 12 months and contract was due to finish, they called me to renew with those rates. I told them I would shop a bit but eventually renewed with them, hard to beat them.
