Very strange that minute cast sites like Accuweather are showing the new radar but their forecasts are totally wrong when they used to be excellent.

Netweather still isn't showing it, which is maddening because I pay for NW Extra!

I wonder could they turn up the power and vapourise this rain 😁

I have emailed ME to ask what the situation is with third party users.

On the met.ie site there seems to be a rendering bug where it cuts off the Shannon radar along a line 30ish km south of the coast. On mobile web home page I see the full circle of coverage, but not if I click on the map to go "full-screen". See the cut off in the screenshot:

Saw that on the app, seems to be okay on the main website

I emailed them (netweather) to ask why and they responded that they're aware of the new radar but it will be "a while" before it's integrated into their maps.

    And it's down since 10:55am.

Seems to be coming & going

Neither is the UK met office

Reason being it hasn't been officially commissioned yet properly probably, even if its feeding into everything properly

That is quite annoying - but it seems to be the way the website is coded - all overlays to fit in to a set frame and while radar data exceeds this set frame it just gets disregarded on the main site. A bloomin' pain in the butt for southwest coastal dwellers who'd rely on rainfall detection much further out over the ocean to see what is coming their way over the next few hours.

Windy now has data from the new radar! Netweather and UK met still don't have the data.

The new radar appears to be down! Thanks a lot, ME! 😣

Goosed . A tweet with very little detail from met Eireann

"The images from the Shannon rainfall radar are currently unavailable. Local observation reports are available here⬇️"

There's a spider in it. Someone needs to climb it and take him out. Well that sorts my rain gauge when it's "goosed"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 727 ✭✭✭StormForce13

The spider has been removed so it's back up again!

    Is it down again...?

The coverage from it quite poor. Look at Netweather and its not there. Look at met.ie and it shows rain in most of Ireland but rain is just in the South so its wrong. A waste of time. Forecast radars apps are better coz at least theyr close to the reality. This Shannon radar is a sham.

Netweather don't have the Shannon Radar.

Raining in Galway City, radar was correct for that.

Ya what's the point in that?

There's nowhere reliable to see where the showers in Southwest are. Why don't Netweather have it? They used to. Is there any app that does have it? Why is the Met Eireann Radar so utterly crap. Like yesterday it was lashing in Cork and Kerry and their radar on site showed light blue which to me means light rain. They used to have a better radar on their website before they "improved" it

As I'm just to the South of Sligo and its absolutely teeming it down I've compared the 3 radars I'm using

    1.Met Eireann -shows nothing

    Screenshot_20231118_111923_Chrome.jpg

    2. Netweather - Shows it approaching but can't get coverage for South and West

    Screenshot_20231118_112111_Netweather Radar.jpg

    3. Weather and Radar > mainly a forecast site to use as a guide to see if its raining in South and West

Excuse my non weather expertise knowledge, but what the feck is going on with met.ie rainfall radar? It currently shows no rain and the UK met office site says the country is covered in light rain. I'm in the north east and it's been raining for a while now. Is it all Shannon related?

….and it's down. The newly installed Shannon radar is broken again. Heading into the long Easter weekend hopefully it won't turn into another protracted outage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,447 ✭✭✭pauldry

Ya it NEVER works on Netweather App. Its a piece of shyte.

it’s particularly annoying. The west pretty much did without a rainfall radar last summer but with the hope of a much better resolution and rock hard reliability as it is a new installation. Sadly it looks like things have only improved a little. I don’t think anyone would mind a blip but it’s been gone since last night. Dublin seems way more reliable. I wonder why that is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,488 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

Netweather don't use it at all, so that's why it never works. Said they'll get around to it eventually

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,067 ✭✭✭blindsider

This really is very poor! Can anyone suggest an alternative, or is there one? Do all weather sites rely on Met Eireann's radar sites?

    Thanks.

You'd have to wonder whether it's ironically exposure related on the West coast.
