My admiration for Trump extends to his extraordinary ability to influence so many people against their better judgement.

Like the way he forcibly influenced his tiny hands into E Jean Carrol?

He bankrupted a casino. That’s some accomplishment to be fair.

She is her fathers daughter, he appears to be expert at putting people under a bus - perhaps she will do the same and act as he has.

Ivanka will definitely throw her two brothers under the bus and if I had to guess she will throw her father under it as well if it means she gets away scott free without incriminating herself in any way.

To be fair, he lost by a hair's breadth in Alabama, which indicates a fairly hefty swing all the same.

But yeah, I suspect a large chunk of the population neither know nor care who exactly is on the ballot.

Well if that's your primary problem with the Donald, that he's wont to have his way with women, I think you need to consider that he's in the company of many. While distasteful it hardly marks him out as unusual?

The vast majority of those who share this trait couldn't remotely hope to emulate him.

That's the problem with some posters here, it's either all or nothing for them as regards Trump. Good or evil, day or night, yin or yang. Life is more complex than that and I suggest you lift your eyes out of the mundane and give Trump the grudging acknowledgement that he warrants.

You realise we’re talking about rape here, yes? Forcible penetration against a woman’s will.

    And you can excuse that?

It beggars belief that this poster thinks being a rapist is in any way common.

    Utterly disgusting post.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,395 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

Don't be putting words into my mouth.. I've seen how you operate elsewhere.

Do you understand the difference between noting objectionable behaviour and excusing it?

Rape is distasteful? This is why we still need feminism.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

'lads, being a rapist isn't that unusual'

    Did I receive that right

No offence here, but it's possible that you may need to look up what "admiration" means. Something can, indeed, be remarkable and worthy of note. But to admire something is to greet it with great respect and an approval. Trump and his dubious "talents"* aren't worthy of that at all.

By the way promising desperate and stupid people the sun, moon and stars isn't an "extraordinary ability".

*I'd argue that the man is actually talentless, but has rode a long wave of bizarrely good fortune, up to an including his farcical political career.

that he's wont to have his way with women

is that you trying to downplay rape?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,148 ✭✭✭silliussoddius

I think it was in Game of Thrones where I read the term “low cunning “, I think it sums up Trump (I’d also liken him to the typical give it but can’t take loud mouth bully).

Hand waving away rape because other people have done it.... ive read some disgusting opinions on her but this is definitely up there.

I think you have a problem understanding your own posts and how they come across.

Lets break dawn your last one.

Well if that's your primary problem with the Donald, that he's wont to have his way with women, I think you need to consider that he's in the company of many.

Trump is a rapist. What is coming across here is that you think that Trump having “his way with women” is somehow consensual. It was not in this case E. Jean Carroll. He raped her.

”he’s in the company of many” alludes to you thinking that men often rape women, or maybe it’s just powerful men that often rape women.

The vast majority of those who share this trait couldn't remotely hope to emulate him

What trait are you talking about? The trait of raping women? You should be clearer here. He is no Lothario, he’s a rapist. Emulate what exactly?

That's the problem with some posters here, it's either all or nothing for them as regards Trump.

Yes, especially when it comes to him being a rapist.

Good or evil, day or night, yin or yang. Life is more complex than that and I suggest you lift your eyes out of the mundane and give Trump the grudging acknowledgement that he warrants.

It really isn’t complex sometimes. Trump is a rapist. You support/admire Trump. You support/admire a violator of women, a rapist.

I've come to believe that what's happening here is not that they "Don't care" as such. It's that they either don't know or simply don't believe the information.

So it's not that they "don't care" that Trump is a Rapist or that Roy Moore is a Hebophile it's that they simply don't believe that to be the case.

Fox News et al have invested decades indoctrinating Republican voters to simply dismiss anything they hear from anywhere other than the "trusted" sources.

So I don't believe that these people are happy to vote for a Rapist , they simply don't believe he is one and no amount of evidence will dissuade them of that unless and until one of their "trusted" sources tells them it's true.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,021 ✭✭✭✭duploelabs

I'm more than aware of that, however the poster which I was replying to seems to think he's achieved much in business so there must be something I'm missing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,227 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

Don't think that is true. After Jan 6th, Fox news did start to err on the side that Trump was responsible and that he was a beaten docket. Cue Fox being called out as biased!

They are choosing not to believe as that gives them a get out on having to explain why they continue to support him. Far easier to simply dismiss all the negative stuff than having to admit that despite it all you would much rather be "A Russian than a Democrat."

I don't know. I don't think so. How many times have we heard variations of "You're obsessed". One of the latest posts by one of his cultists in the "political humour" thread is simply just stating he hasn't been convicted yet. I have said many times before that if there is one thing better than being innocent of a crime, it is "Getting away with it". To them. As long as it pwns the libtards.

When was the last time you heard his cultists claim he was innocent? You only have to look at the last couple of pages.

So they accept he is a Rapist. They accept that he is, in fact, a serial sexual predator. They accept he supports white supremacists. They accept that he tried to steal an election. They accept that he suggested assassination of a political rival. They accept that he calls veterans losers. They accept that he trusts dictators and leaders of hostile nations over his own people. We know fir a FACT that they accept these because ALL of these, bar the rape verdict were straight from his own mouth. And yet they accept him. Fob off these as minor things. Never forget that his cultists came on here celebrating the fact he was "only" found guilty of sexual assault. That they considered this a win!!! A WIN!

So I don't think there is an ignorance. There is an acceptance as long as it annoys "Woke (tm) libtards".

And that tells you all you need to know about their moral compass.

Edit: fixed typo and clarified where a post was made

$400m father and he proceeded to mess about with sibling's inheritance, bankrupted 6 times

Oh would you go away with your moral outrage. Yes Trump is a terrible man, he treats women like crap but what's new in the world. And it's quite irrelevant to my point, it's something you dragged in to try and muddy the waters and cast aspersions at other posters. Standard stuff that debases Boards.

I'm no fan of Donald Trump but I'm quite big enough to recognise that he has had a remarkable career and a public life that very few can attain.

The fact that you & others can't appreciate this speaks more to your small world of inward thinking backed up by confirmation bias from fellow travellers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,781 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

I am not outraged. I don’t know where you are getting that from. I have had enough run ins with you to know our moral compasses are vastly different. Thank goodness for that.

I would love to know why you feel the need to say you’re no fan of Donald Trump, and yet a few hours ago you were here proselytising about “how you have to admire him.”

    I don’t and I won’t.

There’s treating women like crap and there’s raping them. That you think they are comparable is disgusting.

Imagine being a rape survivor and reading your post? Imagine how those women would feel?

Your posts disgust me and hopefully most civil people. I hope it is your internet persona and you are not like this in real life. I have never met anyone who was a rape apologist before in real life, and I doubt those that know you hold this view.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,867 ✭✭✭✭everlast75

"There's something wrong with you if you can't you admire a rapist" is quite the take....

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,781 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

And it's quite irrelevant to my point, it's something you dragged in to try and muddy the waters

    This line is hilarious.

”Say what you want about Harold Shipman, but he cut down the time it took to see a doctor”

    or

“Say what you want about Fred West, he knew how to lay a good patio”

    😂😂😂

You can’t separate the fact Trump is a rapist from whatever business you thought he was good in. You cannot use the fact he was (allegedly) good at business for excusing him of rape.

Could you detail specifically what about Trump's career you admire? Bearing in mind the following (taken from Times Magazine https://time.com/3988970/donald-trump-business/ ) This is not an exhaustive list.

Some Trump failures (as well as 6 bankruptcies and having been sued some 4000 times)

    Trump Airlines

In 1988, Trump bought Eastern Air Shuttle, an airline service that ran hourly flights between Boston, NYC and DC for 27 years prior, for $365 million. He turned the airline, once a no frills operation, into a luxury experience...The company never turned a profit ...It ceased to exist in 1992.

    Trump Vodka

Trump unveiled his own vodka line in 2006 ...The company stopped production in 2011, reportedly due to a lack of interest.

    Trump Casinos

Trump Entertainment Resorts, which is composed of three Trump-owned casinos, all in Atlantic City, filed for bankruptcy for the fourth time in 2014.

    Trump: The Game

Trump launched a Monopoly-like board game in 1989, which was discontinued a year later due to lack of interest. He tried his hand at game making once again in 2005, when he launched an updated version tied to The Apprentice. It was also discontinued.

    Trump Magazine

Trump launched an eponymous magazine in 2007... A year and a half after the launch, the magazine ceased publication.

    Trump Steaks

    ... discontinued...

    GoTrump.com

Trump launched this luxury travel search engine in 2006, only to shut it down a year later, despite being powered by booking giant Travelocity.

    Trump University

In 2005, Trump opened the non-accredited, for-profit Trump University. In 2010, four students sued the university for “offering classes that amounted to extended ‘infomercials.’” Following the suit, the “university” changed its name to “The Trump Entrepreneur Initiative,” before ending operations one year later. In 2013, the New York Attorney General sued Trump and the “university” for $40 million for allegedly defrauding students.

    Trump Mortgage

In 2006, ... mortgage company (was launched). ... Trump Mortgage shut down within a year and a half, in part because Trump selected E.J. Ridings, a man who claimed to be a top executive at a prestigious investment bank but had actually only worked on Wall Street as a registered broker for six days, to run the company.

To be fair, he does have some six hotel and residential developments that have been successful, plus The Apprentice tv show, his business methods may have been suspect and he may have run small businesses into the ground by not paying his bills, but he does have some real estate to show for it. He has also been sued some 4,000 times - detailed in a lengthy article here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_and_business_legal_affairs_of_Donald_Trump#:~:text=From%20the%201970s%20until%20he,over%20100%20business%20tax%20disputes.

He has certainly had a remarkable career, many people remark on it, few with admiration.

Even fewer would wish to 'attain' a similar career, you evidently would, could you explain why?
