Ireland calls for a ceasefire at the UN, the only western country to dare utter the word up to now.

"if you get on the wrong train, get off at the nearest station, the longer it takes you to get off, the more expensive the return trip will be."

it won't happen in this conflict either for precisely the same reason

Because the whole world is watching, not because it's not what they want to do. "Between the Sea and the Jordan there will only be Israeli sovereignty."

See my other post on that. I fear the ordinary locals would be ruthlessly put down by Hamas. Look how they dealt with their predecessors.

Therefore the suggestion they have popular political support in gaza is at least as absurd and baseless as we are told it is to rely in any way on death figures coming out of Gaza. We can't even trust the number of dead physical bodies, we have no hope of agreeing to how many people there 'feel' about supporting Hamas.

We definitely didn't bomb Al-Ahli hospital but here's why we should bomb the largest hospital in Gaza which is already performing amputations without anaesthetics.

Here's our self-made graphic as proof of Hamas' ant-like subterranean complex.

That is why I submit in my other post that those who are not in Gaza should now start to say to Hamas “enough”. Where are these voices?

Israel deserves criticism but so does Hamas and Hamas started the latest war. Why should ordinary Gazans suffer. Hamas should go.

    Stop the rockets.

    Return the hostages.

Surrender the terrorists who committed 7 October atrocities.

If not Western supporters should be calling for Hamas to go immediately rather than criticising Israel 24/7 which is if course music to Hamas ears.

What if the IDF are correct? What should they do?

They do have popular support in Gaza, it stands at 44%, which is huge. About half of them voted specifically for a terrorist organization, the other half voted for the "party" founded by Arafat. So both did support organizations seeking to destroy Israel, and if they were to vote again today there is no reason to assume anything will change.

Eu Council Conclusions, link not pasting

"In light of Hamas’ brutal and indiscriminate terrorist attack against Israel and the unfolding tragic scenes in the Gaza Strip, EU leaders reviewed the state of play and different strands of action, including concerted efforts to assist EU citizens.

In a follow-up to the statement they released on 15 October 2023 and the extraordinary European Council meeting held two days later, they also reaffirmed their:

    • condemnation of Hamas in the strongest possible terms
    • recognition of Israel’s right to defend itself in line with international law and international humanitarian law
    • call on Hamas to immediately release all hostages without any precondition"

This should be the starting point for all discussion on the issue.

    of course they will.

hamas are a weak force really.

they were only able to carry out the recent attack because the israely security forces effed up.

this would be the same israely military that deliberately target civilians, bomb schools and hospitals, engage in genocide ethnic cleansing and colonisation and land theft.

hardly a reliable source in fairness even though hamas are ****.

Yeah I can't square this. Here's the IDF's own propaganda about Hamas training camps

Rest assured, however, that Israel has among the highest-tech satellites in the world. They allege to know where all these tunnels are and how many kilometers there are, and how many liters of fuel are inside a closed volume, but they can't spot, for over 2 years, these training camps? These are military targets?

The only conclusion being that this buildup was allowed to continue.

    Move South.

Report location of Hamas / hostages.

Speak the truth to journalists anonymously if necessary.

Dont forget Hamas have been around a long time. People could have spoken up before.

That said, I am very sympathetic to the plight of such but what of the other points I raised? Where are the voices in the West who support Palestine but now call for the removal of Hamas? There was the so called Arab Spring although I personally hate the phrase. The Western voices for Palestine are nowhere near condemning enough of Hamas and specifically need to call for their removal. Listen to Khan today or the FM of Scotland - why not?

there is a genocide, it is happening and it has been happening for over 70 years.

a genocide is the intended destruction of a people, which israel is engaging in in terms of palestinians in a drip manner.

the fact they haven't succeeded in destroying them does not negate a genocide taking place, because intent is enough.

    Move South.

I think you misread my post I'm being shelled in the south in this not-so-hypothetical?

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/10/26/gaza-attacks-israel-war/

NUSEIRAT CAMP, Gaza Strip — Khaled Ashqar could no longer outrun death. A week into the war, he quickly packed a few necessities and took his family south from Gaza City.

This is what Israel’s military had told Gazans: head to the southern part of the enclave for their own safety. Ashqar also had been through past wars and knew Gaza City could be hit hard.

But the bombardments continued along his route. Ashqar moved again. Nowhere felt safe, the father of four said. A journalist, Ashqar spent hours reporting on the rising death toll. On Saturday, he received word of a strike near the four-story building where his family was staying in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.

In photos: Israel-Gaza war and reactions

The blast punched through the front of the building. His wife was struck in the head by shrapnel, said Ashqar, who asked that his media outlet not be identified to protect his family’s privacy. She was dead before reaching the hospital.

The death was “not something special,” Ashqar told The Washington Post by phone. “It’s something that’s happened to all Gazan people here,” he said, “to all Gazan families.”

As Gaza’s deadliest war grinds on, the search for safety feels increasingly futile for many Palestinians, who also face dwindling reserves of water, food and fuel, with just a trickle of humanitarian aid reaching Gaza. In recent days, Israel said it was intensifying its attacks on Hamas “military targets across the Gaza Strip” ahead of an expected ground offensive.

    .

Report location of Hamas / hostages.

If I associate Hamas I will be killed off as a 'human shield, can't be avoided' TM

    .

Dont forget Hamas have been around a long time. People could have spoken up before.

Haven't forgotten, it raises many questions how they missed training camps with kids holding mock AK47s for 2 years in prep for this attack.

They do have popular support in Gaza, it stands at 44%, which is huge.

What's your source for that figure?

Is it the 44% they won in an election 17 years ago? Who nobody currently alive under the age of 34 participated in?

    That's not popular support.

Yeah, posters like you are correct and the EU Council has got it all wrong. Somehow, I don't think so.

No sunshine the real antisemities are the ones having a go at a country, which is primarily Jewish, that is trying to defend itself and it's citizens.

How would you like if gobshytes were out defending Afghanistan in the aftermath of the 911 attacks, and asking how dare US try and eliminate al qeada that was being supported by and harboured in Afghanistan.

If it was any other country that had this level of attack we would have the usual muppets out with candlelit vigils offering their thoughts and prayers.

Instead the muppets love affair with all things islamic just means they are supporting Palestinians in Gaza, which is effectively supporting hamas.

And if the same muppets weren't antisemities they might quickly distance themselves from the ones calling for the eradication of Israel and that the Jews be driven into the sea.

Instead they are quite happy to stand beside them.

I am not allowed discuss …

given it's the IDF the chances of them being correct are very low.

    Look up genocide term.

Just as bad as boggles and others.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,725 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Funny because, a lot of "gobshytes" as you put them, were out protesting the US War on Terror, and the invasion of Afghanistan, and the occupation of Afghanistan, and the killing of civilians etc.

I remember that. Definitely not a counterfactual. Don't specifically remember anyone saying 'how dare they fight the Taliban' though it was 'how dare they litter my land with depleted uranium' while doing it.

Similarly and dissimilarly here, I don't see anyone out there saying how dare they target Hamas, it's how dare they target civilians, how dare they pull the trigger on human shields, how dare they destroy my city.

#Notyoursunshine, please stay above the belt.

    agreed.

all though i do wonder if their military capabilities areas high as they claim.

they clearly do have high levels of fire power and air power etc.

but everything else like satellites etc and such capabilities of said technologies and the man power managing them?
