Yep. NZ bowlers were poor too. Only taking 4 wickets and 3 of them with economy rates over 10…

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,222 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Can’t believe how poor NZ have been. Most of them have been playing in the Hundred and for counties all summer too.

India vs Pakistan in the Asia cup tomorrow. BT or whatever it’s called now are showing it. It will give an idea of how strong they are going into the World Cup. Favourites by a lot of people for it. Rain could ruin it though.

Was at the England game last night. Only one team in it really. Happy to be there to see Bairstow bat out the innings.

Never seen a rowdier crowd at any sports event tho. The stewards must be on some danger money.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,938 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

watched it… some atmosphere…. The rowdy elements were the English ? Or both ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 225 ✭✭nice bit of green

I assume English people. Beer snakes being confiscated resulted in some negative chanting and drinks trays and snakes being thrown at the stewards.

Only saw one guy wearing NZ gear and didn’t hear any accents other than home fans.

2nd time at OT but first time seeing it full with the lights on. Really cool but shame NZ couldn’t make more of a game of it.

Walked by Steve & Alex Bruce beforehand.

Currently delayed 2 hours this evening at Manchester airport but I have used that time to sober up :-)

NZ finally turn up in the series, 202 on the board, Allen did most of the damage. Interesting chase in prospect.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,938 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Considering how poor they’d been with the bat in the first two matches that’s a pretty impressive effort.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,938 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Impressive start with the ball too. One wicket taken and keeping England well under the required run rate.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,175 ✭✭✭MFPM

Fairly comprehensive victory tonight for NZ in the first ODI V England. Conway and Mitchell both hit centuries, Rashid unusually expensive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,222 ✭✭✭Gillespy

England really are banking on it being alright on the night this time. Having finally won it they’ve pretty much abandoned one day cricket since. Domestically and internationally it’s been an after thought. They went into the last World Cup as the clear best team and then Archer came in last second to make them even stronger.

Australia putting South Africa to the sword again this evening. Australia put up a huge score of 393, SA didn't really get close. Labuschagne really grabbing his chance having being left out of WC squad.

England 226/7 from a reduced over total of 34 due to weather. Liam Livingston scoring 95 from 78 having come in at number 7. 👀. Some going he just ran out of deliveries for a deserved century. Having been 55/5 that’s some going.

think 34 overs is seriously conservative recalculation considering the Ageas bowl is floodlit.

India vs Pakistan goes to a reserve day. Decision only made on Thursday that it could go to reserve day.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,175 ✭✭✭MFPM

England were in serious trouble without that Livingston innings. You'd expect NZ to get this total given the recent for they've shown.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,175 ✭✭✭MFPM

Good victory for England, terrible batting collapse by NZ..

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,222 ✭✭✭Gillespy

That’s a big turnaround in form for Liam Livingston. He had a bad Hundred and Blast and people were starting to question his place, it was his bowling that was keeping him in the conversation. When he doesn’t try to hit every ball over the roof he’s a good player.

3rd ODI - Bairstow goes first ball, Root out for 4, England 13/2 after 3.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,175 ✭✭✭MFPM

Excellent response by England since the loss of those early wickets. 50 for Malan..Stokes on the verge of 50 too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,938 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Ben Stokes 🤯 some hitting. 15 fours, 8 sixes . The power.

Ok the bowling is piss poor. Full tosses a plenty. 173* from 117 from Stokes.

NZ had England 13/2… couldn’t capitalise on the great start, they’ve been blasted to all parts.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,175 ✭✭✭MFPM

Massive win for England, mainly down to Stokes. Agree the NZ bowling was poor Boult aside, Ferguson was atrocious.

England on course for a decent total in the final ODI. Malan 127 the stand out performance so far. NZ need to win to level the series.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,222 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Another lacklustre effort of chasing by New Zealand. It’s like they regressed as the series went on. It’s a pity Williamson was playing to get a better picture of where they are for the world cup.

England used the games to tick a few boxes. I didn’t realise the Ireland series was so close to the World Cup and they have a whole different squad for that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,175 ✭✭✭MFPM

Bizarre game in the Asia Cup, India at one point had Sri Lanka 12/6...eventually bowled them out for 50...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,222 ✭✭✭Gillespy

And as is so often the case in freak innings like that, the other team went and got the runs none down.

Australia manage to lose the series in South Africa after going two nil up. Beaten well in the three games they lost. Not full strength mind. South Africa look good, semi finals might be in reach if they play like that.

England have added Brook to the world cup squad in place of Roy. Tough on Roy but right call.

India have taken the series against Australia with a game to spare. They won today at a canter, Australia were chasing 400 to win (revised down to 317 off 33 Overs under D/L) Australia didn't get anywhere near it, losing by 99 runs. Notwithstanding India's propensity to flatter to deceive at global tournaments, it's hard to see past them winning, particularly on home soil...Roll on October 5th!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,222 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Australia looked world beaters in the early part of the South Africa series, really aggressive and batting deep, but this is now their fifth odi lose in a row. Zampa’s form will be a worry for them.

Had been looking forward to India vs England but the weather over there is worse than here by the looks of it, be lucky to see any cricket going by the weather reports.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,035 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

This popped up in the list of results today on Cricinfo, I had to double take when it said it was a 20 over match. Then had a look at the scorecard out of some kind of freak show like interest:

    427 off 20 overs 😱

    64 no balls 😱

One bowler bowled one over that went for 52 with 17 no balls 😱

I was on the end of a few hidings when I used to play at the lower end of the Leinster cricket leagues, nothing quite like that though.

Ok start for the Irish ladies Vs Scotland….

not a mountain of runs but no wickets lost.….. they be 20/0 after 7.

64 no balls with 17 of those no balls in one over 🤪 that’s either someone drunk or more probably bowling to some ‘ arrangement ‘ ……I’ve never bowled a single delivery in my life barring as a kid in the garden but I’d be willing to bet I’d be able to bowl 4 overs with max 1 NB an over….
