Can I open a Revolut account if you have an AIB account?

I'm trying to clarify this statement on the Revolt website and app, when trying to register to open a basic Rev account:

I think that line quoted is stating that it's not necessary to hold an account in an Irish bank to open a Revolut account, not that you can't do both.

A "Basic Account" is a specific type of account that has no fees, but limited funcuality. https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/money-and-tax/personal-finance/banking/standard-bank-account/

You can only have one if you do not have any other Irish account. When Revolut had Lithuanian ibans, you could have an AIB basic account + a revolut account. Revolut now has Irish ibans, so you cannot have their "Basic" account (or any other bank's "Basic" account) if you have any other Irish bank account. There is no issue having a standard Revolut account and any number of other standard accounts

Pretty much this. There is an EU directive intended to ensure everyone has access to basic banking facilities. This directive requires that one bank in the country must provide you with basic banking facilities. In order to qualify for such an account you need to have been refused banking services by most of the banks in the country. In most cases such an account will not be of interest to most people as the facilities are very basic - you can receive income such as a salary or similar income and make payments and not much more.
