Hamas strike on Israel - mod warning in OP updated 19/10/23

As I have said before, it's not a binary option between releasing white doves or a full scale destructive war in which thousands of civilians have already died within 10 days and that will poison the conflict even further for decades to come.

This constant question of "what are the Israelis supposed to do?" is posed as if the Israelis are some hill tribe facing the might of the technologically superior, better-equipped, better-resourced, Western-backed military empire of Gaza. It's posed as if Israel — now fully militarily mobilised — faces any serious existential threat from Hamas while Israel commands land, sea and sky.

The Israelis got caught out on 7th October but are fully capable of defending themselves against spectacular assaults like that again as they pursue a long term strategy that works in their long term interests. Right now, they are fighting on Hamas' terms and dancing to Hamas' tune.

So to answer the question, "What are the Israelis supposed to do?" — well, how about take a step back with the comfortable position of complete military dominance and stop absolutely f**king everything up for long enough to find a longer, smarter approach.

I've spent 30 years studying, watching and experiencing various aspects of military aviation and military operations ( as many posters know from other, related, forums), plus coming from an Army family, you learn things pretty quickly through osmosis alone etc.

I spent 3 hours last night comparing typical Hamas rocket explosions and destinations, particularly looking at warhead size, manufacture and typical aural traits common just before a rocket strikes. I've then compared these to typical JDAM and other, similar, freefall guided weapons typically used by Israel and the West.

The first thing that becomes blatantly obvious, especially when looking at geolocated footage of the strike, is the warhead size and the blast size. A typical Hamas rocket has a TOTAL MASS of around 50kg to 70kg. Thats Including the propellant of sugar/ammonia nitrate and the warhead ( TNT/Fertiliser/ball bearings).

There is no possible way that the blast recorded at the hospital was created by a Hamas rocket, looking at the evidence from this perspective.

There was as audible " whistle" just prior to the strike in the footage taken through the wire fence. This sound is typical of the Doppler effect created by an approaching or passing freefall weapon of significant mass and velocity. In the attached video of a typical JDAM strike below, you can hear the same sound just before the weapon arrives. The hospital blast appears to be identical to a JDAM weapon of a mass of at least 500 pounds, in other words a MK83 or even MK84.

Secondly, we have the now-deleted tweet by Israeli Spokesperson Nananya Naftali who confirmed that it was indeed Israel that struck the hospital.

This is the tweet currently being referenced by Pakistan.

Of course, we do not yet know what caused the blast, but both weapon types leave significant forensic particles and debris after the blast and the truth, whatever it may be, will soon come out.

Bit strange conspiracy theorizing going on here - PIJ fired a rocket that turned around and fell on the hospital somehow with enough downtlward thrust to create audible whistling sound, and a large enough explosion to be clearly visible miles away, whilst also leaving next to no trace at the impact site.

Have PIJ invented a whole new type of munitions?
