Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

And Irelands only child psychologist, Dr David Coleman, is back on as per usual.

I wonder was there any notion, at the height of the payment scandal and NKMs name becoming known to everyone, of maybe trying to have another child psychologist on the show? Was it ever pointed out by CB or Coleman himself that he too was represented by NKM?

I didn't realise that, it would explain his prominence over the years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,035 ✭✭✭Gen.Zhukov

I was reliably informed (via pm) that close to the time that Claire made her on-air statement about her earnings and fees, that RTE received a query asking why Claire has lots and lots of her NKM buddies on the show (in a similar way that the TV show did) - It does seem there was a drop off of her mates turning up on the show for a while...but it seems to be returning to business as usual

Claire: 'I'm just getting some breaking news - Someone has dropped a cigarette butt on the ground outside T2 at Dublin airport - We have Eoin Corry on the line - Morning Eoin, what's going on?'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,128 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Yeah it was obvious, but only if you knew. Many of us have been watching these stable mates appear on shows repeatedly. Shows you how much power NKM had within rte.

Needs to be nipped in the bud.

Now interviewing an Irish woman stuck in the Burning Man festival. Her name is Daytona with a posh D4 accent. She flew over there for the festival but wants to be environmentally friendly by "being careful to leave no impact behind". Such a Burning Man millionaire stereotype.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,656 ✭✭✭✭mariaalice

The media in Ireland is so self absorbed it's not about you it's about the audience, the audience like him it's not just about being a psychologist it's about how it's presented, CB can have a fair bit of inane drivel but over all it's a good show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,703 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

I've heard more on RTE about that American festival than I have about our own Electric Picnic.

Has the bite herself begun to read out text messages?

I could be wrong but I don't think she used to do that. Is this part of the strategy to try to make her programme less boring and bland ?

Coleman last week, NK's Eoin McGee this week, covering the increase in the price of sugar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 866 ✭✭✭amlinopta

A double hit for Eoin this week, sugar on Wednesday, electricity price reductions today

Comical discussion on the warm weather this morning. Claire Byrne really is an alarmist.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,843 ✭✭✭✭thesandeman

I hope this journalist is able to write better than she can speak.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,392 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

This one on at the moment? Mary McCarthy is it with her Dort accent. Complete brassneck cheapskate - likely next writing a story on climate change while she expects to swan around on cheap flights with her huge bags. Who does she work for again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,843 ✭✭✭✭thesandeman

Yeah. Don't think I've heard of her before. She couldn't string one coherent sentence together in the full ten minutes.

Misery porn. A bit of sun emerges after a soggy summer and its beware the skin cancer and heatstroke. Jesus wept...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,655 ✭✭✭✭elperello

It's a tough subject but it is worth noting that skin cancer Is the most common cancer in Ireland.

13000 cases are diagnosed annually and the numbers are rising.

Held hostage to our international obligations according to the minister . He should have a chat with Viktor Orban, he would tell how to inform the E U we have no accommodation . Ukrainians rushing here with their golden ticket to treasure Ireland. Their fearful the war might end soon and are aware Russian occupation is shrinking . Collect enough dole to go back and visit the dog . Are we being played. Tourism boomed in West Ukraine in the summer

( In reference to posts about helen McEntee being elected because of 'family dynasty' connection)

Eh, I think it's the electorate who makes these free democratic decisions. The country is getting the political set-up that is voted for after all the arguments have been made. They know about the TDs they elect - where they come from , their record , their character . They elect the Healy Raes , the Lowrys , the Ferrises , the Ellises ,the McGraths etc. It doesn't matter whether they're wafflers , chancers, terrorist practitions/sympathisers or nepotists -that's the Dáil we get landed with. They had a chance to get rid of the absurdity that is the Senate and failed to do so. The proposal to have elected city Mayors was rejected except for Limerick. We're lumbered with a dysfunctional political system and a passive ,whimsical electorate. I can't see any sign of a change on the horizon.

Oh , but wait , some benighted retards have floated the suggestion that 16 yr olds should have the vote. Jesus sobbed profusely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,703 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

She really doesn't like single use Vapes does she.

And she thinks this makes interesting radio talking about them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,655 ✭✭✭✭elperello

Health wise they are unproven and when carelessly disposed of they're an environmental problem.

Shopkeepers selling them to kids should be ashamed of themselves.

I have no issue with adults using vaping as an aid to quit smoking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,429 ✭✭✭✭zell12

Mary is wondering why she gets only €287.30pw pension including Living Alone Allowance, and the pension couple next door get €530pw, even though they have the same fixed expenses.

hate this budget phone ins. bunch of outlier cases asking why wasn't I included. I rather hear an interview about what the overall strategy is.

the budgets always seem to be a case of how can we get away with the least people complaining.

I'm 322 euro a year better off. Big deal.

probably wiped out with carbon tax increase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,429 ✭✭✭✭zell12

Majella, mammy of adults want to know what the government will do to get her dahlings on the "property ladder", says they are paying landlords cash in hand. Her daughter has to "live like a nun, have pristine bank accounts" to get a mortgage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,429 ✭✭✭✭zell12

John asks about the mortgage interest relief scheme. He bought his house at the height of the boom and it is worth "significantly less" now. He asks whether he will receive mortgage interest relief if his mortgage is just €1 more than the €500,000 threshold.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,655 ✭✭✭✭elperello

It's all a bit of a set piece.

Could have, should have, I would have.

    €322, don't go mad 🙂

All the same better in your pocket etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,659 ✭✭✭avfc1874

🥱🥱🥱🥱 Katie seems to even have bored herself on the promo,

More moaning foster careers, who always start with... it's not about the money but, just moan and moan and moan about the money and how great they are,

Plus other stuff we can't be arsed talking about.

    Where's Joe 😏🤔

My money is him getting the gastric band and turkey teeth

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,448 ✭✭✭jippo nolan

He will have to reduce his Coddle intake until his Turkey teeth settle in!

Must be a few ‘Costal Erosion’ issues around Skerries seen as the Dunc. mentioned it around four times

Hello and welcome to the programme with me Claire Byrne.

Today John Irvine from County Antrim talks to us about the impact Brexit has made on his cattle rearing farm.

We'll be talking to Brendan Courtney about how emotional it was for him to reunite former house owners with the houses they once lived in.

Dermot Bannon will be popping in to tell everyone all about his new programme.

Finally: How safe are the pens you use? A study from the University of Riga has made some startling new discoveries. It is claimed the pens you are using could in fact be damaging the atmosphere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,703 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

Segment on single use vapes as well. She loves talking about them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,394 ✭✭✭Frank Grimes

Let's never forget the usual 'and we'll be joined after the news by [insert usual suspect here] to talk about all we need to know about: wills and probate / what vitamin supplements to take / how to load a dishwasher / whatever other subject that's already been done to death'

Is it just me or do RTE manage to squeeze in segments about cancer into every possible slot they can find? Every time I turn on it seems to be another voice talking about their medical situation. I don't remember it being like this in the 90s or 00s. Bizarre obsession.

It would make sense if it were a segment about a new treatment, or something that would help people but it never is. It's always just misery porn.

And now over to the weather with Peig... Ochon... Ochon... Ochon da terrible climate change is upon us storms like we've never seen coming up at the weekend don't do unnessessary journies temperatures at 4 degrees don't forget your sunscreen for da skincancer terrible, terrible, terrible times we're in.. And please have a lovely weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,795 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Jaysus… we have another one , I think Jennifer Whitmore telling us that Belgium paying €7 euro to refugees and Ireland €220 needs “stats” to prove that Ireland is far more attractive.

    Unbelievable Geoff…..unbelievable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,791 ✭✭✭✭padd b1975

Very prickly from Claire towards the sports minister.

    Not sure why.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,016 ✭✭✭DoctorEdgeWild

I thought that too. Seemed to be a bit more going on there.

She also didn't bother questioning the last guest about his support of those attacking the artworks in the name of climate etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,392 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

It wasn't on her list of questions.............

And Claire whilst being uber polished, doesn't stray off her prepared script.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,016 ✭✭✭DoctorEdgeWild

It definitely feels exactly that way. A good interviewer will let the subject lead and then nudge them in directions that the audience might be interested in. The guy expressed support for the attacks, the least that warrants is a follow up question.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,392 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

Claire in high dudgeon for once at Colm Brophy's brass necked justification of carbon costs of exporting meat across the other side of the planet. He accused RTE of undermining farming!! Now he's been told to 'get up the ard'!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,799 ✭✭✭I see sheep

Brophy's waffle and evasions catching up with him. What a disastrous performance.

Alison - after ALL the rte reporters have been tru over the last few months.

    Ugh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,795 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Fair play Colie, lit a Fcukking fire under Byrne and her acolytes.

Never let’s me down, does that lad.

  • Registered Users Posts: 463 ✭✭Coolcormack1979

Colm brophy is right.rte are peddling such anti farmer propaganda every week it’s fair upsetting as a farmer trying my best to be made feel like a criminal from Pravda.Christ even last Friday on morning Ireland aine lawlor was suggesting that farmers should be forced to sell up.

have no time for Fine Gael but it’s great to see rte overpaid talent get it put up them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,791 ✭✭✭✭padd b1975

Don't recall there ever being an ad break in this slot...

Lots of egos needing to take a breath.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,469 ✭✭✭✭ednwireland

I agree that colm brophy was spot on with his comments on rte an the rest of the panel trying to shut down industry. its easy to say when your an rte waffler or presenter.

I'm not sure where these people think the money comes from.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,392 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

It was a fair question that she asked. How do you reconcile the dire warnings, changes and increased costs and taxes that the general public are expected to lap up.. with government campaign to jet meat to the other side of the world. If it was exports to Europe etc, no one would bat an eyelid. But there's a strong hint of hypocrisy coming from Brophy and his pals today.

I'm very pro farmer and in particular for the smaller family farm units. This campaign to fly meat to Korea and China etc is more geared to the big beef barons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,795 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Amazing how Byrne and her friends reacted when Colie spoke his mind about RTE.

O’Riordán coming across as arrogant person rightly taken down by Colie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 70,400 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

Brophy constantly gets caught trying to slither down the holier than thou line.

Made an absolute show of himself there when there were valid points on both sides. Ended up personally attacking other guests.

Does more damage to the image of FG than that blueshirt salute photo does. Arrogant party man is all he is, i.e, more stuffed shirt than blue shirt. 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,659 ✭✭✭avfc1874

Yer one, nearly in tears after all rte have been through, none of the panel give a flying fcuk about anything apart from feathering their own nest,

    O'Riordan, some slimy fecker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,795 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Hehheh next thing you will be telling us the white shirt black tie parade at Storeys funeral was insignificant compared to Colm's statement.

Can tell you this Francis, the country needs more people like Colm who lifted Byrne out of her cosy complacency .

Pity more wouldn't have the cahunas to do it.

Wake up from your slumber Francis and embrace reality.
