The limitation is 12kVa. 12kVa can be up to 16kW (I pull 15-16kW regularly overnight) depending on voltage. 63A at 207V is a big difference compared to 63A at 255V for instance. 13kW vs 16kW

Anything over the 1000 fair usage is charged at 9.38c (within 2-6am), so still not the worst.

Exact same situation here this week. I got the retention call a day after I initiated a switch with the 20% discount & 50 quid credit offer, backdated to when my dearly departed 27/8c contract ended last month.

Works out at 36/17c but the 50 quid credit will give me at least a couple of months of free driving so deffo sweetened the offer.

Okay, good to hear. I initiated a switch yesterday so here’s hoping I get the call today. The only thing I am concerned about was that I declined marketing comms from them so that might prevent them from calling

I'm with EI. If I switch to Energia at the 15% discount, then call to cancel the switch within the 14 days, do you think Energia will ring me with the 20% retention discount?

Day night meter switched out today so now have smart day / night meter installed-RM108. Have Solar and battery. Was on deemed export prior. Should I now be filling battery from night rate and using from 9am on and any surplus energy generated be sent back to grid for Fit. Also should I heat all my water on night rate with eddi so 100% of generated solar either goes to fit or house. Thanks

Just to check I'm not missing anything, Energia with a 15% retention discount is the cheapest Day/Night Urban plan at the moment? 38.36/18.4c with €296 standing charge. FloGas have a similar cost with slightly higher standing charge.

If you switch they will offer 20% and 50 euro credit

Good breakdown, 3 hours would be fine for me with an ev and able to charge 70% of my needs at work also. However I do have a heat pump which I run at night from mid oct to April. Depending on weather would average 10kwh a day inc hot water. 3hr window would be tight. Looking at last years stats I think 4 hours would probably cover most of it.

I’ve 20 panels and 10kwh battery set to go in a few weeks. But my thinking is if I went 15kwh. And energia/pinenergy ev rates and fill the battery that any additional delta in my consumption during the day might be met by solar. Even on bad days a couple of kWh? Think I averaged 22kwh summer bills and 28kwh in winter bills per day

    any thoughts?

Apparently they are not offering this anymore since the latest October price cut. So the guy on the phone said anyway!

Yuno price cuts today - interesting?🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 kermi2009

Was this a member of the retention team who said this? I saw on another thread that there are subteams within the retention team and only some of them can offer the discount...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,159 ✭✭✭John arse

Do you have to be on a smart meter with yuno???

Have EV, solar panels (3.4 kw) and smart meter. Switched to EI weekender (free Saturday) about a year ago and have analysed our usage from the ESB Networks HDF file....

61% of our usage has been at the Saturday rate ... I'd say 40% was car charging.

    39% at standard rate about 44 c

The 44c will be 40.4c from November 1st (incl. VAT, and discount..)

So I make it average rate of about 16c per unit approx. for all usage for the year.

With all the talk of discounts etc... I think average rate you will be paying over the year is the one to focus on... that determines your overall cost for the year, with standing charge of course - €272 on this plan.

Very good plan for EV if you can get away with charging once a week (normally). Probably not if you need to charge very night....

Everyone's situation different ... important to run your own figures, even if just estimates.

Yes, it was a member of retention team.

I haven’t actually pulled the trigger on a switch yet but I am out of contract with them so I will be putting it to the ultimate test by switching and see what happens then.

He did seem confident in what he was saying as he knew about it but said it wasn’t on offer anymore… but he wouldn’t be the first call centre rep to talk rubbish!

I don't think they can say no legally if you aren't on a smart meter, but I can't see how their service is useful at all without one

Dad got it on the 6th Oct. I had him warned not to accept anything less!

Dumb question: am on a day/night meter, expecting a smart day/night meter upgrade soon. Will smart day/night meters be able to avail of regular smart tariffs, like the Energia EV plan? It feels ridiculous to ask, but I've sort of picked up on the idea that I might need yet another meter change if I ever wanted to look at a regular smart plan (which would be ridiculous).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,334 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Yes, but the meter will need to be reconfigured remotely

What does that mean? No idea, until someone does it and reports back we won't know

Remotely could define anything from ESBN sending an update through the mobile network, to someone physically plugging a laptop into the meter

The RM108 meters do not need any further configuration to move to MCC12/MCC16 and take a smart tariff.

Are you sure? I'm positive I read about some remote configuration required to switch to MCC12/16

Maybe it's completely on the server backend

Nope, it's exactly the same as the RM106/RM107. It's a meter code change and notified by the supply company to networks via the messenging portal. That's it. No configuration or software change. The only difference between RM106/107 and RM108 is that RM 108 does not support MCC01 and RM 106/107 does not support MCC02. Both are analogous with their treatment of MCC12/MCC16 "smart" tariffs.

That;s the whole point of RM108, to allow continuation of MCC02 day night tariffs but provide MCC02 customers the option to migrate to a smart tariff with no further change. And also (cynic in me thinks this is the main driver) allows them to remove deemed fit.

Can you move back to D/N, say in a years time when your tou contract ends?

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 7,264 Mod ✭✭✭✭graememk

No, same as the other smart meters, once you go smart plan, there's no going back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,334 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

From a smart plan? Nope, once you go smart there's no going back

Certainly the fact they seem to be prioritising people with PV gives some weight to that theory

So we weren’t picked by random !

I rang MDE to defer for a while, when the rates make it not cost effective and the deemed fit goes il move.

    Got this the other day.

ESBN need to make a change on their side so the supplier needs to make a request when changing between the different MCCs - it can take a day or two

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,334 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Well I'm only guessing since a lot of people on the renewables forum seem to have gotten dates for smart meters

For all we know they could be targeting boards users since we're all talking about charging batteries on cheap electricity then selling all our solar back to the grid 😂

Of course that assumes ESBN is somehow capable of tracking down every boards user's real identity, which seems unlikely...
