Aston back to the top table in WEC.

Possibly an out for Lance from F1 to free up a seat? 🤔

And a retirement gift for Fernando.

No, no, no, no. They need to bring Bottas over. Valterri in a Valkerie.

    This too shall pass.

Rumours have been abound for sometime that Vettel had a seat for a top class Le Mans drive, this would make sense.

Great to see him, Alonso and the great Dane Nicki Thiim driving (on the basis of a sole entry)

F1 is so confused on green issues. They say they're banning tyre blankets for environmental reasons. But if its just for environmental reasons then why would they carebof teams find carbon neutral ways to heat the tyres like using sunlight?

I had assumed the colder tyres would spice up the racing a bit. But it will also discourage pit stops as the new tyres will cost even more time as they warm up. I would prefer to see more variation in pit strategy, but that would involve refueling and reducing the time loss from a pit stop.

A few pages back there were stories on the stats arundel fan engagement this year compared to other years. Naturally the 'Drive to Survive generation' were blamed for being recent fans. I had a quick look at last year's thread which had 137 pages, and this year's thread has 62 so far with only a few races to go.

The problem isn't the fans. The problem is the product which isn't very good this year.

The only post mentioning Drive to Survive I can see is this one from you:

Can you link to the others where the 'Drive to Survive generation' were blamed for being recent fans?

Don't have engagement figures for previous years outside of what was posted previously, but a quick Google gave me these viewer figures by year: (source)

    image.png

While they're probably not the best barometer, they do show that since Drive to Survive launched after the 2018 season, overall viewing figures dropped YOY until 2021 where they increased after, arguably, the closest title race since 2008 which has the highest figures.

This is an example form the last few weeks. The research was about social media engagement rather than viewing figures. The social media point is borne out in this very thread. The much less social media engagement in this thread and I'd imagine it's the same in the race threads.

It's not the fans fault, it's just not a very entertaining season.

Last year we had a more interesting "Silly season" with Ricciardo leaving, Alonso moving, Piastri signing for McLaren. That would have taken up some pages.

    This too shall pass.

Don't worry lads, in 20 years you will look back and realise that you experienced something exceptional.

If this is not enough motivation to sit through hours of boredom I can't think of any better reason.

I am not his biggest fan at all, but he really should consider leaving. He is really holding that team back.

Even he must realise by now that he doesn't have what it takes.

Stroll has all the body language and attitude of somebody that doesn't want to be there. He's getting absolutely hammered by Alonso pretty much every race weekend, he cost Aston plenty of points by being completely useless

Jokes, i presume because it's not our job to sit through hours of boredom. Most people have families and lives. If I looked back on my life and realised I sat through a half decade of boring races and ignored the gosson, and then saw a good season, I'd be furious with myself.

In reality, I ignore the poor entertainment l and just follow the results, and tune in for good season.

Maybe I'm just a fair weather fan. But I think F1 has to compete for my time. This year, other things take priority because the entertainment is poor.

Re. Stroll, Aston have announced their entry into WEC from 2025. They have said that Alonso and Stroll won't be involved, but they could be the out Stroll needs? Next season could be his last in F1, then move to WEC where he could still do very well...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,321 ✭✭✭✭klose

I guess it's all just taken a toll on stroll (scuse the rhyme) there's literally no reason for him being so far behind other than him ultimately not being very good, can't blame the car, can't blame team orders/strategies. Even with Aston being massively out developed second half of the season Alonso is still making the most of the car.

Does he really enjoy just languishing at the back of the grid? Hard to imagine he does, maybe he might pack it in, maybe daddy is putting the pressure on, who knows. It's annoying as a spectator seeing a competitive car for a while only being half utilised.

So issues with the tyres in Qatar. Seems that the kerbs are causing delamination or separation between the side wall and the top layer. They might mandate the maximum numbers of laps permitted on a set in-race to 20 Laos, forcing a three-stopper!! Interesting!

If Max wins or has won the WDC ( Yes I am behind as I had more important things to be doing yesterday) during a stupid sprint race then I am done with F1 which is perfectly good with me as I can then cancel my Sky too. Who needs T.V anyway when we have everything in the palm of our hands.

3rd or 4th time dramatically quitting F1 anyway.

But how can they cancel Sky, when they continually go on about watching the race highlights as they won't pay for sky....

That had me puzzled too. Probably had more important things to be doing than cancelling Sky. 😁
