not interconnecting smoke alarms

Hi all

I have a few smoke alarms in the house, all interconnected with a backup battery. Model is this one:

Sometimes (maybe once or twice a year) they may go off (perhaps they get dust or a small insect, no idea) and when they do it is quite annoying as they all go off together making a deafening sound (I am quite sensitive to loud noise) that makes hard for me to go around the house chasing the one that triggered (the one with the red light flashing quickly). This usually also happens at night :D so the entire family wakes up.

My question is, how bad would it be not interconnect them, I mean leaving the interconnect wire out for all? They will still get power from the mains and the backup battery if needed and if one goes off even if it is just one I still will be able to hear it from the back garden with all windows and doors closed (they are quite loud).

Just trying to get peoples thoughts, if that is against some regulation or a silly thing to do.
