I'm not sure where your getting the idea I'm dodging and gaslighting .

Did this child receive a medal at the ceremony.

    Yes .

This child was racially discriminated at the ceremony. You are trying to gloss over the fact.

Watch the full clip and see how complex a job it is... she got distracted sorting the medals and skipped a child by accident, nothing more

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,683 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

distracted by what, her racism? Intrusive thoughts?

the official in question decided not to renew her membership with Gymnastics Ireland in August 2022 and has not been a member since then.

Gymnastics Ireland (GI) said the official had not been sanctioned by the organisation “as a mediated resolution was agreed between both parties”.

Yeah I don't see GI being reported as doing anything wrong, it's all at the feet of this judge and her actions.

And yet what you claim isn't true,

Are you saying foreign and black children are applying and being refused places in gaelscoils,

Or is it a more simple case of immigrants sending their children to prominently english speaking school's

Are you saying Gaelscoils arent "elite" and cliquey ? I can tell you first hand they are absolutely that, and precious little Tadgh and Sorcha is an accurate way to describe the class of people that are being sent there.

Lets put it this way there is a stark contrast in the types of people in Gaelscoils to Other schools and its not by accident its by design.

I'm quite experienced with Gaelscoils not just one , all schools are cliquey unfortunately wether it be scoil berla , educate together or multi denominational, the ones I know in Wicklow, Kildare and Dublin have a mixed bag of nationalities and cultures and religions, and the biggest issue Ive personally come across parents not having English as their first language struggling with Irish homework, all have ASD units, and kids with varying conditions, most schools up until recently didn't have ASD units most have one or in the process of getting one and others are getting second ASF units ,

I'm not the biggest fan of Gael scoils at all but they aren't the pure white and Irish as they are made out to be ,

Disgusting racism in my view. Handled very poorly. It's sad to see. The racists on here will love it and defend it but ordinary common folk are really not happy with this. Gymnastics Ireland with their poor apology only made things much worse for them.

There is a very nasty mob building over on Reddit and Twitter over this.

Have to say it's heartbreaking looking at that little girl. However, could anybody be so stupid as to be so explicitly racist ? Whoever presented them made a major **** up, but you'd want some neck to deliberately do that if the motive was racism .

Beware of people who love to talk about how they are filled with empathy because they always turn out to be hard and vindictive.

    Race baiters gonna race bait.

Someone's life is about to get destroyed.

Or at least the attempt will be made.

Racists going to be racist. It's like porn for them.

Well she'll think twice the next time. It's an appalling and disgusting video. Won't be long until her name trends online so won't be surprised if protestors turn up to her house.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,683 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Well she'll finally get a chance to give her innocent explanation

It happened over a year ago, I hope nobody takes it to pitch forks in the driveway.

In this day and age, would an organisation actually make a point of deliberately and publicly discriminating against someone - particularly a child - based on their skin colour? Or is it an individual making a dumb mistake? The first one, and the damage it would do the organisation, seems highly unlikely - despite how much some people are absolutely longing for it to be the case.

What's all this "we" and "typically Irish" stuff about? Speak for yourselves.

And yes, a gaelscoil is like a KKK rally. Pointy hats and hoods and robes everywhere.

Fu*king listen to yourselves. Absolute idiocy.

Ah yes, turning up outside someone's home to scream at them, it's OK when you do it but when it happens to someone you like it's a travesty.

No actual evidence exists that this person is a card carrying member of the Irish racism association but let's go to their place of residence and have at them regardless because it's cathartic or something. Maybe we can pressure their employer into sacking them as well, there's all sorts of shenanigans we can get into to ruin their life, after all no one will care because they're obviously a terrible person.

Jesus I've heard of some leaps before and this one is right up there. I've seen kids not get their medals in football and martials arts, it's upsetting to them because they feel left out and that they did something wrong, so you have a word with the organizers and it gets sorted (I have been at a competition where they organizers, for whatever reason, felt they were infallible and pushed back, this is at a children's martial arts competition remember), by the time the kids are home they've forgotten about it. If we want to go down the road of every slight, real or imagined, has a racist agenda behind it, we only have to look at the madness in the UK and US and see where it will get us.

Will you go way lad, if she has arrived at that girl and was out of medals you d say fair enough but she looked at her took stock of the medals and went past her to give it to Tagdh and sorcha instead.

It's the same way it is in swimming and hurling and rugby elitist middle class making sure there kids get everything.

What's the bet she knew the parents of the kids she gave the medals to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 449 ✭✭L.Ball

Absolutely, she could have had 8 medals and 7 kids for example, so the medals were divvied out according to how well she knew the parents. Again, I've seen this, and there's a mad scramble to find a spare medal/trophy for the kid. I will repeat, if we whip ourselves up into a frenzy about these kind of things were on the route to worse trouble down the road.

It's not just racism - it's all forms of prejudice and bigotry. Racism is the only one deemed unacceptable though.

People always want someone to look down on - someone not "them". Makes them feel good. "I might be an unemployed unintelligent layabout, but hey - at least I'm better than them - they're...."

    1980s - black or coloured

1990s - immigrant, east european, chinese

    2000s "Gay"

    2010s "A tranny"

And when transphobia is no longer acceptable they'll move on to some other group.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,628 ✭✭✭Augme

The facts are the white women presenting the medals gave a medal to all the white children and ignored the only black child in the lin-up. I'd love to know the womens explanation for this? Obviously she won't say it was racism though, even if it was.

So are you saying that racism is not acceptable in Ireland but all other forms of prejudice and bigotry are acceptable?

I was referring to a post made by another user that they hoped the woman presenting the medals would have protestors outside her house.

I wasn’t talking about the child.

Ah gotcha. Almost like that song says - looms to the left of me, looms to the right of me and I'm stuck in the middle.
