God Alone were a right surprise. Nice to see that music output can come from home.

Thought his drums were going to spontaneously combust - jez can't EVER see him doing a 90min gig without a defib close by.

But then Whores swager on and blow them all away!

    National Concert Hall last night:

    Elvis2.jpg Elvis3.jpg

Very different from the last couple of times I've seen him. Just Elvis on guitar (mainly acoustic) and Steve Nieve on piano/keyboard. A different sound but it was arguably the best of the 4 times I've seen him. The audience were brilliant and I think that really brought the best out of him.

PS- Dublin City absolutely alive this evening

What do you think of NCH as a venue?

I love it . I book specific seats for every concert where I can as I’ve found they give the best concert experience.

Some great concerts there through the years especially Jazz and Cuban music.

I was about 3 seats away from the middle on the front row, so had pretty much as good a position as you could get. My first time there for a gig. No complaints at all. Sound was fine.

There are seats upstairs to the side of the stage that I would probably look to book for a future gig if I get a chance

    Ah feic off they’re mine🤪

Yes indeed- you’re getting close but no cigar to my favourite seats- There’s pros and cons of those seats actually - the main con is neck strain as depending what side you’re on you’re either looking to the left or the right for the whole show. It’s actually quite a strain.

I went to a performance of Rachmaninoff’s piano concerto years ago - I wanted to see the piano work up close so got a “front row seat”- worst decision ever - yes I saw the piano work but very little else - depending on the type of performance “front rows” can be really good seats or actually really bad. Neck strain looking up can also be a big downside of those seats

PS I can’t believe that’s your first gig in NCH- mine was 1982 or 3

Heading to Chicago tomorrow for RiotFest, Foo Fighters, gaslight anthem, postal service and death cab, The Cure, Frank turner, Flogging Molly, Viagra boys, the Bronx, QOTSA and I'm sure there's others I'm forgetting. Then Frank Turner's lost evenings the following weekend in Anaheim.

Sounds interesting. I think we should have a thread for everyone who heads to an unusual festival, one not covered in the regular threads, to give a bit of a run down on what other festivals look like. I'd be really interested in hearing about that sort of thing.

Not sure about her latest album. It hasn't grabbed me the way previous albums have.

I liked it from the outset. I expect she'll play most of it. It's nice that Dublin is first, so the setlist will be a surprise.

Yeah, different pace alright but it has really grown on me. Can't wait to see it live.

To quote Jean Luc, "Make it so."

Next up for me is Deathcrash and Bar Italia in the Workmans Cellar and main room next weekend. After that all hell breaks loose for Oct/Nov/Dec 😲

How many more years? How much time is there left? All the rivers reversed while you counted each step.

God bless your energy, Dreamweapon. I didn't see Bar Italia at EOTR but heard great things about them. I'll be interested to hear what they were like in a little venue like that.

I've seen New Pagans a couple of times. I actually know Cahir. He's also lead singer of The Sleeping Souls (Frank Turner's touring band).

Shania Twain tonight in the 3 Arena

Nice selection of new and old from right across her back catalogue. The woman still has it, she really rocked and worked the crowd and she looked absolutely stunning in that dress that she wore in the music video for Man I Feel Like A Woman.

The support act, Breland, whom I had never heard of was very good. I will be checking out his stuff.

8 gigs in 11 days for Shania, who has serious vocal issues, no doubt she brought her tapes with her.
