Powering on a usb powered light from a usb powerbank with home assistant or Google home

Hi folks,

Daughter has one of those neon usb powered lights on a shelf in her room. Rather than run the them off a usb plug and dangle a cable. Is there usb power bank that integrates with home assistant or Google home?

There might not be a direct USB power bank that integrates seamlessly with Home Assistant or Google Home.

Just remember that device will always draw power from the usb supply/power bank, so it will run the battery pack down a little more quickly. Good idea though, let us know how you get on

This worked a treat anyway. I picked up a 20000 ma powerbank. Curious how long it lasts just running the usb socket.. I probably should have gone bigger on the power bank

hi folks,

i picked up a larger 50000 ma powerbank just to avoid having to charge once a week etc.. the trouble im finding though is it powers the usb adapter for about 4 hours and then shuts off. Its hoco brand power bank. ive read quite a few powerbanks will shutdown after 30 seconds or so if low current drawn. any way to stop the power bank shutting down? id buy another brand but dont want to face the same issue

I've only had one powerbank which doesn't power down and that's old now. Would you take on making this from an ESP32 instead? The ESP could sleep until it's interrupted by a button and then you could have a bunch of LiIon cells on a low-end BMS to give some discharge protection. ESP could then hook up to a WS2812B addressable LED array and give multicoloured effects.

back to my original use case.. its a crappy cheap led sign.. i dont want to run a cable to a plug for neatness sake.. i could jut be a bit messy.. might actually be the best way to go rather than investing in multiple powerbanks! havent used a esp32 its a customizable led display? i have home assistant etc up and runningwith a fair bit of integrations running

looks cool and might try it for another project.. for now found a path for the cable that doesn't look that messy so will do for now and will keep away from the powerbanks! it worked but recharging a bit of a nuisance..
