Ferguson tore up the cards as a good humoured ice breaker at the start of any interview, whereas Kenny tore up the card with a scowl.

Watch the faux scowl on Patrick Kielty's face. It was a Kenny imitation.

I like how they've brought back the little Nat King Cole tune at the end.

Loved the music at the end “it started on the Late Late Shooowww”

Probably wants to be uncontroversial to start with ..or maybe just keep it lighter .

Interesting about James McLean and the daughter , and him being on the spectrum..not that I found him interesting other than that really .

Hope they get better guests on ..

Sometimes you'd feel horrible for the presenters as their guests, are more locally know than international and when it comes to international guests, they want eyes on the screen because they're here to advertise their film or book etc.

No, I just like the music. It's a small touch but one i like.

A sneaky budget cut - Lines don’t close until the 29th. So one competition for 3 shows

He didn’t do an “IRA” video with his kids

Nice job, good easy watch for a Friday evening.

Easy tone, even with the more pointed questions at the end, which were needed.

Obviously the concern is guests and how you fill out a season but things might be more topical to current affairs as the year unfolds.

Absolute miles ahead of anything we were offered for the last decade.

Loved it. And all irish guests. Nice job. Love the northern angle too. James was the gentleman I know he is. Great show. I know a lot of Dubliners living in their semi d’s are looking for Norton, but this is a good balance.

Naw- the star of the show tonight was PK- everyone else was wallpaper - the whole point this evening was introduce PK to his audience - that’s done- next week the show starts proper.

It was all a hoax, or RTE realised they are out of pocket so much and can't afford to give away the prize.

Is it? He’s going to a country he clearly has a problem with and a country which he has disrespected.

Why not ply his trade on the continent instead?

Roy Keane, rebel, hard man, man who said he'd have nothing to do with media 'bluffers' after retiring practically went back on everything he said. And he put on his poppy.

I only saw the first hour or so, but for the first time in ages I enjoyed the show. I didn't feel like I was being judged by the host. With Tubridy, I always felt he was trying to teach a lesson.

The opening was shaky but actually funny, and without attacking anyone.

I think he comes across very well. I think it was a mistake to have Tierney on. I felt he was trying to steal the limelight a bit. But was funny.

I see a lot of potential here. There is a depth to Kielty that Tubridy lacked.

Now of course I think Joe Duffy should have been first guest - BUT - I am sure he will get him on.

Good choice of host. Like the set. And like the way they used Gay's voice at the start. That was a nice nod.

So they have someone answering the phone till the 29th???

    Crazy waste of money.

I laughed when I flicked it on, a lot of Ulster voices. I am surprised if he does not go through all the politicians from Stormont. Sure they do nothing anyway!

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Oh one other thing I liked about Kielty in there show over Tubs, he actually let his guests talk and finish their point without talking all over them!

Happily watch next Friday, fingers crossed for non rte canteen guests.

That was very good. Its actually like a Friday night entertainment show now. It boggles the mind. Let's hope it stays that way.

He can only get better as time goes on but has made a good start to it.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

If Michael Parkinson was presenting tonight's they'd still be saying he's crap.

    I thought he was great.

Nerves were clear but that's understandable. He'll unfortunately be crippled with the poor selection of guests but not his fault, I think he is trying to keep it as upbeat as possible. The McClean interview was interesting as it was serious and I think he was trying to find where to strike the light hearted balance in it without it getting too morbid. No doubt Ryan would have jumped on the depressive side of it and rammed it home....

Once the nerves settle I think it'll be something we wouldnt mind watching on a Friday night rather than watch to poke fun at

I won’t go so far as to say “amazing” - but if he can get decent guests it will be a good show- very happy with him as presenter - the show? Well let’s see if the numbnuts in RTÉ feic it up or make it a success

Rubbish. RTE will survive those who used it for themselves.

Opening night jitters, but I think Patrick did a good job.

Welsh Megaman gives him a solid 7/10.

Should he have stayed in NI and taken the kings pound??

    Pros:

    • He's not Tubridy
    • He was good in the audience segment
    • The break bumper music was great

    Cons:

    • Opening monologue dragged out the joke farrrr too long
    • Guests were poor and while it might have been good for him to have mates around, it wasn't great for the rest of us
    • Audience whooping and clapping like seals
    • Entire thing felt flat
    • Misery slot hasn't been done away with

He seems to be a nice guy to be fair, but not suited to this and little seems to have changed overall once you peel away the shinier wrapper.

Finally a competent presenter. He like GAA and general sport too which is a bonus, Tub's interview with sportpeople were particularly crngeworthy

Never liked Mary McAleese. There's a darkness to her that I can't quite put my finger on

I hope the guests aren’t announced in advance of every show - gives it that element of suprise, even if most of them are s***e!
