    Now launched on Virgin:

    504 TG4+1 HD

    602 Cula4 HD

Presumably this will replace the existing Cula4 channel on Virgin which was just a repeater of TG4 with just the children’s programmes.

TG4 +1 was on Cula4 last night I wonder if they have just decided not to split the channel on the Sky EPG. No real reason to put it on 204 also.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

I'm sure that will be rectified. Anyone looking for TG4+1 won't be looking in the childrens section.

    Nice opening to the channel.

No EPG but TG4+1 broadcasting on 624 following the closedown of CÚLA4.

In typically Irish civil service fashion, cula4 remains on TG4 for hours a day unchanged.

At least we'll have Cula4 in HD for a time, the only positive thing I can think of.

I reckon it's a safe bet that the amount of children watching on saorsat is exactly 0

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 839 ✭✭✭Mickey Mike

They might be a few in the North of Ireland, its a handy service to have.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,163 ✭✭✭Digifriendly

Would be interesting to know if there are any viewers here in the North who have Saorsat. I guess it must be very few as Saorview widely accessible.

Having said that, in some Irish speaking schools unable to receive a Saorview signal, having Saorsat would be an asset in order to get Cula.

I they will use their internet connection.

It looks like they simulcast much of Cula4 on TG4. I think it would be better either to offset it by an hour or 2, or to mix and match the age groups between both channels. E.G.

    TG4 - Preschool | CÚLA 4 - +6

    TG4 - +6 | CÚLA 4 - Preschool

And RTÉ News Now rebranded to RTÉ News in August 2020

Also, why is the number 6 listed when there's no channel assigned to it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,549 ✭✭✭RoTelly

people still call VMTV ONE, TV3 and other who still called RTÉ2 Network 2.

TG4 sees an increase of 7m in their budget bringing their total budget for '24 to 57m.

TG4 have drastically reduced their dependence on France 24 this season, they are now broadcasting their own material until nearly 5am. Ros Na Run for example which is broadcast Tuesday and Thursday @ 8:30pm now gets repeated at 23:30 and 3.30am

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,549 ✭✭✭RoTelly

It is interesting to see how TG4 have been able to do this, while RTÉ have Euronews broadcast across 4 channels.

In fairness a lot of mainstream TV channels gave up on late night Telly years ago, remember UTV direland? They used to shut up shop for the night at 11:30pm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,549 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Did they? I think they had shows repeating after 11:30? no? I'd have to look back at an old schedule.

RTÉ continue to buy in almost all the product that they used to have for late nights, and in fairness RTÉ could use a different feed on RTÉ2 ... I am sure they could grab BBC News 24 on that channel. I don't see the point of 4 Euronews feeds. TG4 should consider France 24 on TG4 +1 during late nights.

Agreed, especially as Sky News and Euronews are just on a loop most nights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,911 ✭✭✭Cape Clear

Never understood this drive to have news or shopping channels looping through the night. I guess it's better than forcing people to watch repeats of Daithi O Slugaire doing Healy Rae impressions at Breakfast time.

RTE has a share in Euronews which may influence their choice but to broadcast on a number of channels is a bit of a puzzle.

Is there a +1 channel for TG4 on FreeSat as well as the Cala 4 channel or are they time shared

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 12,832 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

No Irish television channels are on Freesat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,549 ✭✭✭RoTelly

I assume you mean Saorsat, based on the Sky feed (that doesn't continue with +1) I assume Saorsat TG4 +1 is the same as Saorview

TG4 in SD is closing on satellite on 8th April, so any Sky viewers will get the channel in HD as standard on 104 or 163 in NI.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,516 ✭✭✭mackersdublin

But all Sky customers with a HD box get TG4 HD as standard since it launched on Sky on 104/163 since 2016, the extremely few SD box customers won't be able to view TG4 at all from next Monday, as SD boxes are not capable of showing HD channels

There won’t be any SD box customers after August, so the question will be academic.
