Is there a handy way to turn off contactless on the debit card

There would be no way to turn the contactless option off on your Visa Debit Card. All our cards are issued with the contactless option. You do not have to use this if you do not wish to you can continue to use your card for chip and pin payments.

Surely the option should be there for security reasons

You can freeze your card via the BOI App, (just to mention)

I've done that when I think I've misplaced it before I cancel it incase I find it , handy feature

Hi, It's a feature on N26 and Revolut - I can enable or disable online transactions and ATM use on both apps, enable the swipe strip on Revolut, or even have location based security on Revolut. Can BOI follow the app leaders here and add this functionality?

Yes, just highlight it by holding the card over a light such as a bike light. Then just drill the antenna. Don't drill the exposed chip & pin.

For added security, scrape-off or obscure the CVV number and retain that elsewhere. It means that even of the card is taken from you, they don't have all of the details to make online transactions.

None of these are sanctioned by BOI of course, but we'll expect that these security features will be right along on their app so that we don't have to deface our cards in the interest of security. ;)

Wouldn't there be more chance of the card being skimmed in hotels and fast food outlets if contactless is disabled

I presume they can't skim contactless

If you were to misplace your card we have the freeze option on your BOI App, this is in your cards section when you log in. This feature allows you to freeze and unfreeze it if you have found it.

You can also contact our Card Security team to alert us that your card has been lost. Our colleagues will block the card immediately for you and issue a replacement card to you.
