I have renewed my contract on the new offer that I got this evening and have received email confirming that new price applies at end of contract and 14 day cooling off period applies, hope this helps

Interestingly I was on chat with BG today and they wouldn't budge on their derisory offer of 6% off. Logged in tonight and there's a 33% discount offered for electricity only. Have another four weeks to go on the OBS deal which is the same discount.

Oh thanks for this, also getting 44% off both with BG.

I wonder does the cooling off start the day u sign up or when Ur old contract ends

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 800 ✭✭✭Sam the Sham

I wonder how it makes sense for BG to offer such a big discount to retain existing customer while offering low discounts to switchers.

But mostly I’m just annoyed that they aren’t offering me the same deal.

Where exactly do the BG deals show? I'm due to roll off mid October but seeing nothing - is that because I'm too far from expiry?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,818 ✭✭✭creedp

As a matter of interest whats the max sustained rate you can charge at with a domestic connection? Would charging an EV and solar batteries and running household appliances simultaneously bring you close to max rate?

For me Im assuming having to run a GSHP in addition to above would certainly push me over max limit which is why reluctantly Im not in a position (as well as not yet having a smart meter) to consider the Pinenergy offer.

    @zaf5

    I don't see that 39% offer.

I'm with them and currently on a 39% discount that expires this week.

All I see are 10% discounts on their website.

How did you navigate to that offer?

    Thanks

I did ask them earlier for 35% discount in recognition of my 11 months loyalty.

There's a link when your viewing your bills

They'll email you about contract ending, then about an offer available. should get on soon, the one with offer was about 6 weeks out for - but it was only 16%

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 194 ✭✭ben36

Probably but when I was 6 weeks out from contract expiring I was offered 10% off both gas and electricity.not until last week when one week away from it been finished was I offered the bigger discounts. The deals should show on your online account

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,707 ✭✭✭batistuta9

Was wondering about this too, usually the other way round. New offers are still only 10%. They all seem to have increased today too.

Cynical side is thinking there's an increase coming 🧐😄

How close were you to end of contract on the previous deal?

At the moment BG are offering me 38% off gas and electricity, but I have about 20 days left to run on current deal.

I checked it last week and it was way smaller, like 16%.

Should I just jump on this and be happy??

    Gas

    Unit rates

    14.61 9.06 cent per kWh

    Annual Standing Charge €169.40

    Carbon Tax €0.00877/kWh

    Electricity

24 hour rate 48.19 29.88 cent per kWh

    Annual Standing Charge €281.12

    PSO levy €-7.43

Prices include VAT at 9%. Prices are effective from 1 May 2023 and are subject to change.

16 days last week got offered 44/12% online, followed by call from their team I said no then today after seeing the new offer logged in and my offer was 44/44 %

On a smart meter plan here..one of those "switched" by EI without consent..

Anyway got a call last week from BG retention team. Offered 15% but when I said I was looking elsewhere she asked who. When I mentioned Flogas she just replied"Ah, Flogas...call us back next week (near contract end) and we might be able to offer you something better".

Logged on this evening and offered 32% on smart plan. Rates above are not the best but ok for Smart plan and at least I won't be paying more and the rates might(?!) drop over the next 12 MTHS.

    Could be worse😏

I see new rates by clicking on the link emailed by BG about my plan expiring. I'm on a smart meter plan and see 43% discount on gas and 34% on electricity. Plugging these into a spreadsheet I put together to determine charges based on actual consumption patterns over a 3 month window, this is definitely the cheapest option at leas as of today.

Are those prices including Vat? If so that's a great electricity rate.

I have been offered 34% discount on electricity, on smart plan..but I'm also with them for fuel too. The rate in your screen shot is crazy 🤣.

I got 44/44 too on BG this evening so grabbed it. If rates go down, we'll benefit. I'm 11 days to end of contract.

Gas 8.18c, elec 26.99, incl VAT.

I was on a 39% discount too that was due to expire Friday. I logged into my account on their website this evening and their was a link there for the new offer, hope this helps

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 393 ✭✭Dec4

Just don't switch anything on after 11pm...😁
