Must have tapped out the suckers on truth social.

I'm honestly amazed Truth Social has lasted as long as it has, though I'm guessing almost entirely off the back of it being a bullhorn for Trump and nothing else; did it ever exit the invite/beta stage? I'm gonna presume most other users are just conservative Americans ranting about Woke this, BLM that, and lots and lots of antisemitic / racist dog whistling.

Not only that, it seems to push news tweets to android UI about 24 hours after the event. I don't really use the app anymore, so it pushes random crap at this stage. I would say my personal usage and tweeting have dropped off a cliff since they started modifying the algorithm. Similar for my general friends group.

Considering Google and Facebook pay some news publishers in a number of countries rather than the other way around, that plans definitely going to work...

Just noticed a new "report illegal EU content" option on the app

I wasn't aware they had done that but it would fit.

No surprise those who want to post vile tweets are in favour of anything that weakens restrictions against such conduct.

I'm surprised it took this long, but sure enough the complete absence of any account verification with Twitter Blue is having an obvious effect: account scamming, trying to fool people into thinking they're interacting with a legitimate support account.

I hate Twitter and never look at it but I do recall for years political liberals making the losertarian argument that it was a private company which could choose or not choose to host whatever content blah blah blah

That was the justification for excluding conservative/right-wing/whatever views.

Aren't the losertarians now getting what they asked for? Just decamp to another platform.

Alternative is to treat social media companies like Twitter and Facebook, and indeed Google, as information monopolies and break them up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,106 ✭✭✭Christy42

They can indeed do what they want (within the law which twitter seems unsure on). I can point out the flaws in what they are doing and pointing out cases of hypocrisy such as claiming it is now about free speech. Generally I have not seen anyone say that twitter can't have blue ticks or whatever, just pointing out that it won't have the effect many claimed beforehand and pointing out it is not neutral. They have the right to be the next Truth Social but claiming they are neutral now is silly.

Plus the cult of personality around Elon is an interesting effect worthy of discussion.

Well I am not a part of that cult and I regard celebrity billionaires as odious.

What's more the political designations they wear are mostly a front and they act as a class. Musk could play a liberal Democrat and Bill Gates could play a conservative Republican, with help from their P.R. teams, who both craft their image and train the public in how to regard them.

Either way they are making piles of cash and running effective monopolies with a wink and a nod from Government entities.

Either way they are making piles of cash and running effective monopolies with a wink and a nod from Government entities.

Respectfully but Musk is not making money on this thing; the entire thread's premise is based on how he paid far, far over the odds for the company and has openly admitted that the company is struggling to make bank. Twitter wasn't a gold mine before the acquisition, nevermind after. It's the sole reason many business decisions like Twitter Blue were taken.

As to the rest of your post, again it's missing the reality that Musk's behaviour has been that of a man singularly disinterested in spin teams or PR. which of course is his appeal with some people, Musk's almost adolescent humour and general shítposting style. If anything, he has revealed his true self, hence the reaction.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,839 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

Firstly, it generally took some pretty atrocious behaviour to get banned from Twitter. Personally, I do think it's a little bit sad how crap it's become as a platform. Just cause I found it to be a useful resource over the years.

Outside of that, I couldn't care less what Musk does with the site beyond the entertainment value of him fecking up on a consistent basis. It's also done a fine job of exposing the fact people will justify batshit insane things if it supposedly "owns the libs".

So nope, not imploding or getting particularly upset over the takeover. I'm pretty sure that's how most posters are viewing it.

Personally I hope it ceases to exist. It was always a middens heap but seeing an immature clown pay way over the odds for something because he’s a loud mouth stoner is hilarious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,025 ✭✭✭growleaves

It's just an image - a curated image.

Both SpaceX and Tesla get subsidies.

I notice many people who dislike Musk will produce apologia for celebrity billionaires from the same class, as long as those other billionaires put on a good show of being prim and serious left-leaning responsible technocrats.

    But hey whatever.

    Like who?

I'm a fully Eat the Rich kinda guy but sure we could all fashion Strawmen to justify any rationale, which makes it hard to take your argument as in gold faith. Just having a go cos there must be some Ideological source for this anti Musk attitude - thus allowing the dismissal of his critics as the (truly) Looney Left, at it again all histrionic. instead of the simple explanation that he is, in fact and not fiction, a bit of a díckhead that people find distasteful and annoying. Or just find his Free Speech rhetoric paper thin waffle. Certainly I recognise users on this thread I'd not have called especially Left Wing, but as you say. Hey whatever.

"You only hate him cos he's not left wing" is just asinine. The idea his utterances on Twitter an act a bit too convenient.

He used to have a pretty positive image in the past. Flash forward to now and I haven't come across anyone I know, colleague, friend, family member who doesn't think he's a twat. Buying Twitter seems to have been one of the key turning points, the mask came right off.

I've said it plenty of times in this thread: I used to admire the guy, being a huge space, futurist SciFi nerd. Tesla and SpaceX, having made billions in IT? The guy was cool. But the more he opened his mouth the more I began to realise he was, as you say, a twat.

It was probably around the time he called that rescue Diver a paedophile, just for trashing Musk's empty/stupid offer to design a submarine, that started me thinking this guy wasn't someone to cheer.

I think the "pedo guy" stuff is a quite useful prism for observing Musk fanboys in general.

If you've the type of intellect that thinks calling someone a "pedo" is a wonderful risposte to a perceived slight, then the odds are that you're quite likely to hero-worship Musk as well.

Twitter X has paid out €12.7m to the staff it made redundant in Dublin since Musk bought the company.

Musk sacked 140 staff from the Dublin office so that works out about €91k per person sacked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,618 ✭✭✭Cordell

That assumes that all the moneys went to the sacked employees, and that it went to them (more or less) equally. But also it won't be unheard of that someone who's on 100k a year tech job to get 100k in redundancy payments, depending on time served.

Buying twitter gave him the biggest platform to have the most public and chaotic series of midlife crisis in quick succession.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Mad really that at one time a mid life crisis for millionaires with small penises was to buy an overly expensive sports car now it’s to go to space or buy your own social media company to get the internet fan boy support to reassure you that you don’t have a small penis.

Do you get a free Blue Tick if you buy a Tesla and have the X app forced on your car screen?

I hear you get taken to a special Musky hospital or Musky undertaker when you're killed or injured by a driver reading a Blue Tick tweet.
