I've had a few Redmi Notes, find them great bang for the buck. Make sure it has fast charging, for a big battery it's essential.

Just ordered a pocket friendly power bank with 22W PD fast charging and LCD display for the remaining battery % for €15 delivered with the store coupon code.

    133438217-134249181.jpg

The battery capacity is a straight up lie, it's 5000mah not 30000mah and I went for this particular model as it has a kickstand so you can stand your phone up in portrait or landscape.

It seems some people in the review images are getting one with a 4 LED battery indicator instead of the LCD battery % so I asked them for the LCD one specifically.

You can charge 2 devices at once also but it will double the charging time.

An apple version with lightning connector t for iOS devices is also available

An Post at the moment, I ordered stuff on 2nd from China and it was delivered yesterday (10th).

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Purchasing cheap items on AliExpress, Shein and Temu is about to get more expensive next year?

My last order from the site was in 2020. But i believe I order something from Shein (2023) for a friend since then.

I order most weeks and usually have 4+ items in an order so €2 will only put 50c on each item so with free delivery over €10 it won't make any difference to me. Unless I need something in a day or 2 it's a lot cheaper and usually 10-12 days from order to delivery. I have Amazon Ireland orders taking longer to deliver.

I bought a small thing for the kids for Christmas on October 20th and it went missing, no updates since the 28th of October, presumably a fast way issue. I complained to AliExpress and they have come back and said that it has til the 23rd of December before til they will refund! 2 months leeway seems fairly nuts to me

Good thing it wasn't expensive or even overly important.

The time for that duty has finally arrived!

    • From 1 July, a new Customs Duty of €3 for each item in a parcel will apply to goods bought online from non-EU countries, including Great Britain.

Time sure flew since my post in November!

I use AliExpress a lot. For tech and hardware items the quality is usually very good, provided you check reviews. No worse than Amazon for non name brand stuff which is all made in China anyway. You'll often see the same exact item on both sites just under a different random brandname.

The new charge of 3 quid on every single item will be annoying. At the same time I understand the EU has to try and incentivise EU citizens to stop funneling money to China.

My question is are there any EU marketplaces remotely comparable to Ali? I'll shop within the EU if there's a viable alternative. But if some website is selling a HDMI cable for €20 that's identical to one on Ali for €4 then the choice is obvious.

A charge per parcel rather then per item would have been easier for consumers to accept,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭BottomBurp

It's not a charge per parcel, or a charge per item - it's a charge per customs category apparently. In reality there are so many categories, that you will be paying close to 1 charge per item. I think it will kill the purchase of cheap items, and we will shift to buying bulk items and more expensive items. It was nice while it lasted. First they took away the head shops, then they introduced booze MUP, now this.

This customs tax does nothing to stop funneling money to China, people will continue buying Chinese made products, whether sent directly from China or from local retailers. Barely any product under C150 that I ever bought online from Ali and co. had any EU-made equivalents, not to mention the massive price difference on those very rare occasions when it did. Squeeze the remaining manufacturing out of the EU with green taxes on energy and claim to level the playing field with a €3 tax per product/product category for low value items that won't be made in the EU in the foreseeable future no matter what. So what is it going to protect then, local retail? Already gone, replaced by tax avoiding giants like amazon & co.

Still, the idea of abolishing the low value tax exemption loophole is fine, it was introduced in a completely different reality, but it should have been a proportional tax right from the start, not from 2028.

I made this point on another forum somewhere here but the flat €3 tariff is a very illogical tariff, especially on lower value items.

Extreme and basic example but take €1 value items as an example, I can get €150 worth of an identical item and pay €3 total tariff for a €153 total, but if I get 150 different €1 items, it's €3 tariff per item so I pay €450 total tariff on the same €150 spend to get a €600 total.

Decades of outsourcing and offshoring by companies means a lot of stuff is now only available from China, penalising us consumers with excessive tariffs for cutting out a few middle men to get items is annoying.

For me anyway, with lower value items the tariffs will probably mean I'll buy a couple of an item instead of just 1 so I only get stung for the tariff once instead of multiple times if I need more.

Hopefully, eventually more stuff will be coming from EU warehouses to avoid it.
