Home charge points (purchase/problems/questions) (See mod note post#1)

I'm not sure I could do without a granny charger. We've had the car a few months and there've been a few times where the granny charger has made a trip much easier. Yes, we could have detoured to a public charger instead but at a time/logistics cost.

Filling out the SEAI form and at this point you need to know the manufacturer and model of Charger?

I didnt think i had to decide that at this poing. So i'm better off getting the quotes first, deciding, then applying?

Have you priced up an EV charger install? Have you got the landlords permission to do a major electrical install on the house?

Personally, not in a million years would I pay all of the cost of an installation in a rental house, especially if you're only there for the short term. You've a tiny commute, one public charge a week would more than cover you.

Type 2 granny chargers are going for about €100 on Adverts, you'd possibly get one even cheaper as you're UK. Always handy to have one even if only for irregular use.

Similar to the above post, would be happy to hear recommendations. Haven't had the time yet to research or apply for quotes as we were dealing with the house purchase, but I'll start doing so over the following two weeks.

Home is also a new build; vehicle is a 2022 Leaf 40kWh. We'll probably be installing solar next year, if this makes any odds for which charger could be recommended. Although I've had the car a year, I've been without a dedicated charger due to rental circumstances.

We'll have a large driveway in the new home, but like many other new builds, it's not separated from the neighbouring terraces by a bush or wall. Due to this, and it may sound like an idiotic question - are wallboxes secure enough to prevent unauthorised use, say someone plugging in while you're away?

Non issue, all home chargers require an isolator to be fitted beside the unit. These can be easily locked in the off position with a small padlock.

I got a Wallbox Pulsar Max from Amazon, and an electrician to install it. Just under 850 euro before the grant.

All grant documents sorted, so I'll report back once I get it, but that's a formality now. I'm chuffed, thanks to all who helped here.

hi, hope this is the right place to discuss and ask this.

i have an electric car charger ( wallbox) at home. it got damaged with water during recent renovations. the provider are saying the only thing they can do is replace it for nearly full price.

i was looking to see if anyone has come across this before and if they have any recommendations if someone like an electrical engineer or someone savvy like that could look at it and fix it

If you could actually find anyone, you'd probably just end up paying more in labour for someone just to tell you it's goosed.

How damaged is it? Have you tried drying it out thoroughly and seeing if it works?

Edit: Also, who damaged it during the renovations? If it was builder/sparks, they should be sorting you out.

New to EV and planning on purchasing soon.

I have solar panels so assume Zappi is the best option for me, but not sure if other chargers can be integrated with solar.  

Can people give me an idea of price and installers in Munster.

I see some adverts for €599 after grant, is this for all chargers?

Nevermind, found the info

Breaker will be replaced along with new cable. Charging will only be during the night so not sure if I need the priority switch.

I found the resources for changing the charge speed on an old thread. So should be good to go once I get the usb to rs485 adapter.

That’s serious price gouging, unlikely it’s anything to do with it being a Zappi. I’d suggest you get a few more quotes. After that it might make sense to get a local electrician to run a suitable cable from fusebox to the desired charger location and then get a car charger specialist to supply the Zappi and connect up both ends.
