California is not going to fall into the ocean. It is at the top of two tectonic plates which are sliding relatively north and south against each other. It appears that the Gulf of Baja and the peninsula was a result and continues to be. Such movements resulted in many earthquakes.

There have been a series of earthquakes lately occurring from Southern California to the north coast.

    All on 16 October 2023:

    4.0 near Eureka 3:31 AM

    3.5 near Densmuir

    3.8 near Guerneville

    4.5 near Pacific Grove

    3.0 near Del Rio

    2.9 near Eureka 7:15 AM

We know how to rock and roll!

To add to the above list.

    17 October 3.0 Oceanside, CA

18 October 4.2 Bethel Island, CA

Wonders if these numerous recent quakes are pre-shocks for The Big One (8.0 and above)? Or many little shocks that serve to relieve pressure between plates thereby reducing the likelihood of The Big One anytime soon (of course in geological time).

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the north ridge earthquake which hit Los Angeles on January 17th, 1994. The news coverage is amazing to watch even all these years later, with the amazing sight of both water and fire on streets in areas of Los Angeles.

Read an online article using USGS data that suggested that the Big One (8.0 plus) near or at California occurs about every 500 years, and that it may be overdue. Something about plate tectonic activity in the Pacific. Also suggested that a tsunami may occur as a result. The little sea coast town I live in started making preparations, so someone is taking this seriously.

Now that we are at the dawning of quantum computing and generative AI, hopefully Caltech and other scholarly researchers will come up with predictive models for earthquakes and tsunamis.

4.7 earthquake near Malibu in California earlier today. There’s video of TV a stations on the air and seeing the cameras move. They are saying it’s a shallow earthquake that was felt over a wide area.
