But most people here don't care if it is successively or not, sure some are saying they'd like to watch it fail but general I don't think they are going to care if it succeeds.

He should set up a podcasting company as a producer and call it RT's Éireann

Why? His predecessor was very unprofessional when dealing with NK.

I believe it is both understandable and reasonable.

it is not my intention to deal directly with Noel Kelly when negotiating with RTÉ presenters represented by him regarding their contracts. I will deal with contract negotiations on a case-by-case basis’,”

It makes far more sense to not have to deal with the middleman. If Duffy or D'Arcy are willing to accept e.g. €130k per year then good, if not then goodbye. Bakhurst is obviously aware of how Kelly negotiates from his last stint here, which is likely far more unprofessional than anything he is used to dealing with.

This was a crazy weekend. Right, deep breath. It feels very strange still. I imagine that a lot of you may have been feeling a lot like I have. Shaken, troubled, let down, and worried for the well being of people on all sides of what's been going on, and full of questions. You, me and all of the people on boards.ie gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth. Who acted in a way that they themselves have to acknowledge ended in their contract talks being thrown away and them walking away from a career that they loved in RTE. That is a lot to process. And it's equally hard to see the toll that has taken on their mental health. I think what unites us all now is the desire to see the same happening across the board for all of those involved in causing our licence fees to go up so high. I hope that as we start this chapter and get RTE back to a place of warmth and magic that we know RTE holds for all of us, we can find strength in each other.

I cannot help thinking Tubs will be back after this has all settled, after the new year maybe. But if somebody is made permanent in the 9am show, what slot would he bore on?

RTE has announced more changes to the format of the show ahead of Patrick Kielty's debut next month.

The chat show, which returns on RTE One on Friday nights from September 15, will have shorter run times and fewer episodes, as well as a new logo to go along with the new host.

Episodes will be reduced to 30 instead of the typical 35 to 37, and the show's duration will reportedly be around 90 minutes instead of two hours. This means the chat show will air from 9.35 pm until 11.05 pm.

The news comes as The Late Late Show fans expressed disappointment in the show's new logo, which was shared on the show's official Twitter account on Friday evening, reports RSVP Live. The logo has a dark blue background with the Late Late written in white in bold font in a light blue circle, however, the iconic owl was nowhere in sight.

Maybe the iconic Owl fell out with Kevin Bakhurst!

I dunno. The long the TV license non payment goes on the harder Turbridy will take to get back. No one knows what sort of restructure is going to happen at RTE. This restructure might not accommodate Tubridy.

I would say it's very likely it will happen, unless RTE have quietly told him he'll be back next year.

I think we can guarantee that he hasn't been quietly told he'll be back next year. Based on previous performance, we would know all about it already

The reason why media organisations employ contractors is because it’s easier to get rid of them if they aren’t performing.

If they are hired as staff it’s a different ball game altogether.

That new logo reminds me of both pacman and batman. Batpacman!

Yeah, cos Rte have a history of showing contractors the door.

The contractors at rte are basically employees with favourable tax arrangements.

RTE's independent contractors are about to discover how dependent they are on RTÉ.

Lottery Ryan is nearly forty and is still obsessing about the likes of Kim Kardashian and Britney Spears.

None of this is true. I know for a fact he has very few offers and none outside of Ireland.

Should have been the moon with Tubs silhouette on it just like Hitchcock used to have.

I quite like the simplicity of the logo for TLLS. It's inoffence either way.

    ...... Headline tomorrow ....

RTÉ SPENT €500,000 ON NEW TLLS LOGO

    I'll get angry then!

Podcasts that do well tend to have a niche audience, or else the presenters are so high profile or well-connected that they can attract high profile guests (Joe Rogan had his comedian and MMA connections, Marc Maron had other comedians, etc to get the show off the ground). Tubs has neither. He's a presenter without any niche interests or interesting opinions. He is a jack of no trades and ... well that's it. He's bland and boring, and that's fine for the LLS and 1 hour a day of radio (minus ads and music; probably closer to 30 mins). He's a background noise. Nobody is going to pay for that.

I do think he is a bit of a fall-guy for the other skimming and inflated salaries that were going on in RTE. Pay him the most and he's the obvious target, while others line their pockets in the shadows. But I've zero sympathy for him.

    WHY SO LITTLE SUPPORT

I'm not a Tubridy supporter - in fact I can't stand him, but if polls are to believed there are a lot of people who like him and are sorry to see him being kicked out.

It strikes me as strange that apart from Sunny Disposition, he has no real supporters on Boards.

Rumour has it that Boards users are mostly old farts, the sort of people who you'd expect might like Tubridy.

Are Boards users very untypical of the population in general?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,042 ✭✭✭Sunny Disposition

Ryan is very well connected, it’d be crazy to say otherwise. Loads of people recorded messages to wish him well as he left. It’s very likely he could interview Russell Crowe or Hilary Clinton in one of his first pods, it this is the road he goes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,042 ✭✭✭Sunny Disposition

This thread has been kind of taken over by people who are mean to Ryan.

I think of people are saying a podcast he hosts is doomed there is a question mark about their objectivity. Many of the same people won’t even acknowledge he is a talented broadcaster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,395 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

I don't know - maybe you shouldn't believe the polls? How are they made, who pays for them etc. Maybe they are all PR.

I've seen a bit of stuff on facebook, some profiles luving him whilst others are more circumspect and they often have many 'thanks'.

Can't say I know anybody who has much sympathy or liking for Ryan Tubridy.

We just be around long enough! I find most people on the interweb tend to complain than to be positive over something they like.

I'd like to see others be positive about Tubs. And they have as much right to post on any social media to show support.

I just don't think it happens all that often.
