It’s a public ID3 forum - it’s literally aimed at both owners like yourself, and people who are eager to learn or find out more; rather than just reading a mix of you lads either licking yourselves or listing your weekly software problems.

all I’m saying is that the ID3 isn’t for me, and for the reasons listed. I’m sure the 98% of readers/non-posters will appreciate both points of view.

    thanks for your contribution 🙄

It is slightly disingenuous to compare the highly specd tour with some golf price from two years ago though.

But if you’re a low mileage driver the arguments for ev cost savings are less strong - that is true.

Golden, this genuinely made me laugh, good observation to be fair.

If you ever decide to change you will get good advice and info here 👍🏻

But you aren't here to learn anything, all you've done is disagreed with anything that was said by each poster and then try and glorify a bloody diesel Golf. If you were actually driving something a bit different from all the other bog hoppers I could understand but a felter... Me fcukin' nerves, god give me strength 😆 Go and buy another Golf there's plenty of hoppers waiting for yours...

No software problems to report, in saying that, your favourite car in its latest guise isn't immune from the odd SW glitch but I'm sure you'll be able to get all dem lights lighting like de meriacn cars...

When the opportunity arises I can be a very inefficient driver, but not much chance around Dublin.

To be fair to the id3 and move away from talk of software updates and lads licking themselves 😬, the D and B modes are great. The intelligent regen and ability to coast is something I miss in the MY, the i3 is tiresome in comparison with extreme regen all the time, fun, but unfortunately no option to adjust.

The cars ability to allow the correct amount of regen for bends, corners, junctions, roundabouts or approaching traffic is very intuitive.

@ACAandCTA western motors rang me yesterday to cancel next weeks scheduled ‘update’. Backlog of non completed updates 👍🏻

That said, the car is going well, 35,000 on the continentals which are being replaced today. They were a good tyre, faultless actually, I could get more out of them but tyres aren’t something I’d cheap out on. Il keep one as a spare.

Range wise looking at @electricus figures I’m about the same.

Hammer the tour for 450km, drive handy and it’s 500km.

Knock 20% off each for winter. Although I’ve never seen less than 420km in winter on the Gom.

For comparison to other cars the MY rwd is hovering about 365km and the i3 a solid 110 KM (zero range drop over 180,000km’s)…

Dropped car on Tuesday, was ready to collect last night. They gave me a 232 e-up with 600km on the clock as a loaner car, was like driving a toaster or something out of Mario Kart, honestly shocking stuff.

    They:

    1) Updated the software (incl. part of a mandatory recall/ 'campaign' with an issue with one of the battery cells on my model apparently)

    2) Service

    3) Four new Continental tires, also part of a recall or as they say 'campaign' which cost me exactly €0 😁 (What a wonderful surprise!)

Software seems slightly snapper/ responsive to touches and delighted with new set of tires, because I'm driving it to France in 3 weeks and great to have a full set of new rubber for free. 😎

Yeah, there was a problem with some of the Continental tyres splitting on the inner sidewall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,091 ✭✭✭Mr Q

I thought it was the 19" Goodyear's that were splitting. Either way it's good to get a new set unexpectedly.

Totally completely and absolutely disagree with e-uo statement. They are a fabulous little thing utterly unpretentious an just as well screwed together as any Volkswagen adequately quick superb ride for the size of it the whole "connectedness" is pretty basic and th UI is wait for it......Buttons exceeds quoted range all the time.I like mine at least as much as the ID

Sorry, I’ve tried to read through that comment but can’t make sense of it, don’t remember mentioning anything about pretentious/unpretentious or build quality / how things are screwed together. You lost me on the typos, punctuation, e-uo and UI stuff. Apologies.

It was too🫣. Did you get anywhere in getting a replacement under warranty? Probably not being Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,416 ✭✭✭✭fits

Nope. The other two were replaced alright but no refund for the first two replaced after the blowout.

My four Goodyears are getting replaced next week as part of a recall due to sidewall splitting. Will have the car three years next week, all free of charge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,259 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Goodyears were splitting, Bridgestones were just shyte.

😆 Straight to the point and no messing 💥. Are the Continentals ok? That's what came on the Born.

    Evening all.

Has anyone gotten wind deflectors for the ID.3? If they have, can you share which ones.

Also, I got the OBDeleven dongle the other day. Ran the diagnostics, and it came back with 13 errors! The car is only 4 weeks old! Anyways, you think it'd be ok to clear them? Would the dealer know I've been fiddling and mess up my warranty?

Yes clear the "errors" and the next time you check it will be the same as would any other car no dealer won't know any different.

There seems to be this misconception that diagnostics in general will come back and say "hello it's me,I'm your XYZ whatever and I'm defective" the reality couldn't be further from the truth even with dedicated OE diags.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,405 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

I had loads as well I cleared them off. Did you change anything? I tried entering various controllers but couldn't, I got the controller not responding message so I just left it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,239 ✭✭✭Soarer

I've changed one or two things, but I ran the diagnostics before I did anything. It was the first thing I did when I got the dongle!

Will clear them so and wait for the explosion!

Any takers for the wind deflectors? Much rather have the windows down a bit than running the a/c.

Just to reply to the various comments on efficiencies and quoted GOM ranges.

As an experiment I did a spin for 15kms or so and deliberately kept my average speed achieved to 55kph. My resultant efficiency was 8.4km/kWh(about 12kWh/100km. Impressive you might say and the range on 100% charge will be well over 400kms. Some clarifying observations might help..............

1.55kph average speed is actually very slow on most roads unless you are driving around the city. 2. Driving on the open road (80/100kph) speed limits and driving to these speed limits your average speed will be much higher at say 70 to 80 kph depending on time of day traffic levels etc. 3. At these higher average speeds the efficiency achieved will be a lot less due to exponentially increased drag forces (proportional to velocity squared) at perhaps around 6km/kWh or so. 4. It is possible to get over 400kms range (58kWh battery) but ONLY if you maintain the (slow) average speed of 55kph for the entire 400 km trip AND assuming that weather/road/elevation conditions are very benign. 5. GOM range reflects past history efficiency achieved at a particular average speed under specific weather conditions and is a poor predictor of future range unless you manage to replicate the same journey at the same average speed with the same weather conditions. 6. So if you want to predict what range you are likely to have you have to ask yourself 1st what average speed you want to achieve- and of course traffic and weather conditions depending.

As a follow-up to a previous post I made I traded my ID3 (211) earlier in the year for a new Cupra Born. The part exchange for my ID3 was close to 33k euros. At the time the ID3 was then listed for resale for 38k euros. During this week I have seen the car now listed for 33k asking - a 5k drop in 6 months. I wonder if 2nd hand ID3's are going to drop further in price given that a lot of 3 Yr old cars will be coming onto the market from now on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,259 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Apparently I need a front driver side drop link.

Would that be a warranty job or just wear & tear?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,416 ✭✭✭✭fits

I’d say that’s likely. I’m also fairly sure our next car will be used to take advantage of those better prices.

    Sounds painful😁.

    'Physician, heal thyself'.

Joking aside, I would be surprised if VW don't consider that normal wear and tear, but worth chancing it..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,259 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Yeah figured I'd try. Need to book in for the battery recall job so I'll ask.

If not it won't be a big deal, part is cheap enough and the next door neighbour is a mechanic.

Not sure it helps but I had a driver side top strut mount replaced under warranty. Suspension parts should be good for at least 3 years (warranty period) under normal use.
