Liberty Insurance - Need to correct penalty points from 2 to 3 - Will it affect premium?

In the heat of the moment, getting lots of new insurance quotes, I accidentally told Liberty I have 2 penalty points for speeding, when I have 3. I took out my insurance with them, and now I have to correct this.

I don't want to void my policy in the event of needing to claim

What I want to know is will this affect the premium I'm currently paying, which came out cheapest of the main insurers.

I'm a novice driver (and middle-aged!) with one year's no claims.

If you don't tell them and have an accident your policy will most likely be void, it shouldn't affect it too much if at all but you need to be honest and explain your mistake asap. You are basically driving without valid insurance AFAIK.

It certainly would not be void. They would cover any third party claim

They possibly would reduce any claim the policy holder has, but highly unlikely for a single points offence especially as you had told them you had points.

Argue amongst yourselves on the semantics.

It's an honest mistake I have every intention of rectifying with them, but their lines are closed on Sunday, so it'll have to be on Monday.

If they won't insure me, or the price will be higher, I'm within the 14 days to cancel, if there's a cheaper insurer to choose from.

It can be voided for a misrepresentation. Do no confuse the insurers obligation to compensate an innocent 3rd party, with 'cover' being in place. If an insurer provides cover, they have no right of recovery against you for their outlay. If they void cover they can

So, I had to pay an extra €50. Which seems rediculous since it was adding 1 point to the very same and only offence. But the premium is still much cheaper than last year's €2,200, so I can't really complain. At least my policy is in order, now!
