    A

As the decision from RTE on Tubridy's future is being dragged out, I would find it very hard to believe if they were not paying him.

Not to disagree but that Whitehall/ Aiken ad was on this morning for example in Claire Byrnes show. If that's a cheap slot, says something about what advertisers think of RTE's current affairs programmes. I'd have thought that's one of the more expensive slots, not exactly the graveyard hours.

But yes you could well be right about the arrangements for tickets various for other Aiken promotions/ gigs they are not actively promoting on RTE.

All I can observe is that it's a murky business indeed..

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

I would be inclined to look in the other direction. Whitehall only really exists because of his fathers stable of talent. He 'won' [and I use that term very loosely] an award for the best comedian in the UK in an award ceremony that had previously proven to be rigged, and while a whole feast of other comedians were in their prime and not even listed. It would not surprise me to hear that he or his father is paying for the lot to increase his exposure. His jokes really only appealed to young teenagers and as they grew he lost a lot of that audience.

So after the hols it looks like KB and his Leadership team are now running around like headless chickens.

Anagram of Ryan Tubridy - Bury Any Dirt

    Tubs - Bust

    Noel Kelly - Lolly Keen

Levity aside, got my e mail to remind me that my TV licence was due this month, unsurprisingly it can sit in my inbox until this debacle is resolved to the satisfaction of the paying public. I wont be holding my breath, but will be holding on to my money.

Whitehall’s career truly is a mystery to anyone who has ever seen his “comedy”. He must have a great agent……

I know people did get upset over the money, but in fairness none of that was Ryan's fault, he left all that stuff to his agent.

It'd be great if he were brought back soon, a lot of people really miss him. I think with the bad summer and cost of living etc, it'd give the country a bit of a lift if there was an announcement, or if he just came back suddenly to the radio show. People would be delighted.

An adrenalin lift from the public lambasting of RTE and Tubridy it would generate perhaps?

    :)

His agent wasn't the one who came out in public talking about solidarity pay cuts when the reality was very different.

He is supposed to be Ireland's foremost commentator on public affairs, if he didn't have a clue what was going on with his pay - given those statements and knowing his pay is published as a major story every year - well then, he is clearly incompetent and has no business being in such a role.

It's not just about Tubrity any more and it never real was.

    • RTÉ's generous car expenses
    • RTÉ's presenter pay
    • RTÉ's staffing arrangements re: staff v contractor
    • RTÉ's wasting of money on frivolous things
    • RTÉ's overall bad governance
    • RTÉ's decision to let their CFO take a redundancy package (and potentially others who should not have received it)
    • This coupled with RTÉ's decisions on programming and cuts to programming and to services that the provide
    • along with their continuous asking for more money

Tubs is just an overall glace at what has happened in RTÉ over the last decade if not 2 decades.

Think that he still is being paid. It shows how utterly useless the management of RTE when it comes to dealing with the problem. This has the capability to destroy RTE's licence fee system. And Bakhurst, the DG, is on holiday. RTE is in an existential crisis and its DG goes on holiday. It really epitomises RTE.

RTÉ Director General Kevin Bakhurst has announced that the review of voluntary exit schemes in 2017 and 2021 has commenced, with legal firm McCann Fitzgerald to complete the report by the end of September.

I had posted about this a while back. It looks as if RTE are being deliberately ambiguous about it so that people go away believing what they want to believe.

My view is that RTE believe that Tubridy is due money due to being available to work. He's suspended for "editorial reasons" rather than due to any wrongdoing on Tubridy's part. Therefore he's due money and when they've decided how much he should get per week or month, then he'll be back paid pro rata.

Does anyone think that RTE do anything about them if problems are found?

Tubridy the foremost commentator on public affairs? :) That will boost his ego and give the whole of Ireland a bit of a laugh too.

Indeed. As Stanley said to him at the PAC, "people tell me you're the real DG of RTE" to which Kelly responded with a disingenuous "Aww shucks, little old me??" routine.

I have a feeling NK's relation with Dee Forbes was similar to that of Cheryl Sandberg and Enda Kelly. ie Forbes was on speed dial and the correct greeting was always, "Your wish is my command!"

Kevin Bakhurst has called in the big guns because he knows the “exit packages” are potentially explosive.

If the former Chief Financial Officer awarded herself a “golden parachute” without meeting the scheme’s requirements, the €75K a year to Tubs will become a side show. An organisation is fundamentally undermined if the executive primarily responsible for enforcing the financial rules was also breaking those rules to line their own pocket. If there are multiple cases of this sort of abuse, there is no culture of governance. The side money to Tubs is an embarrassment which can be contained but an organisation being plundered by its own leadership cannot survive.

We are in the realm of speculation here and we can’t draw any firm conclusions but the lady in question didn’t help matters by crying off the Oireachtas Committee invitation (and the effort to read out her exculpatory text message was rightly shot down at the Committee).

She is still reporting for RTE.

She was on RTE 1 news at 1 today.

I quite agree. Ryan is the Poster Boy for RTE and its culture (I use the word loosely), the embodiment of the entitlement and greed, whilst bringing precious little to the party

Ah come on, that’s very severe.

He was well paid, why shouldn’t he be? He brought an awful lot to RTE, he was a huge factor in getting the country through Covid. Ryan has also brought vast joy to young people through the Toy Show.

He probably won’t want it now, and unscrupulous journalists would be criticising him, but he would have been a strong contender in the next presidential election if he’d run. And he’d have been almost ideally suited to the job. But merciless people have scuppered that for him and the electorate now.

The amount of begrudgery is genuinely sad. Like it or not Tubridy is a huge talent who has done a lot for Ireland. These are the facts, make of them what you will.

I think that's a breach of her Geneva convention rights, or something.

Before Tubridy, the Toy Show was always about the kids and the toys. Tubridy changed that so that it became about him.
