Storage unit contents insurance

Not sure if this is the right forum or not. Mods can feel free to move if necessary.

I have some household items in a storage unit. The company operating the business are now imposing a monthly insurance fee of €15. The contents are worth approximately €3,500.

Paying €180 a year seems exorbitant to me - maybe I'm wrong but compared to house contents insurance it is certainly high.

I've tried my house insurance provider and some other companies but none provide cover for storage unit contents.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

That's not an insurance fee - that's a price hike / price gouging dressed up as an insurance fee.

In many cases your household insurance can cover it. Check the policy or the company. Once you can show them that, you are covered.

You can also ask if you can sign a disclaimer so that if there is a flood or break-in, you will not hold them liable.

I definitely saw it as a price hike. I would have thought they have their own insurance cover.

Unfortunately my house insurance doesn't cover items stored elsewhere

Did you ask your insurer. Most will add it for a small extra cost. Sometimes it comes under "all risks"

As I said my house insurer - AXA - would not extend cover for me
