Aesthetic gas boil flue placement on the front of house

Hi,

I am dealing with a renovation and the placement of a new condensing gas boiler's flue bothers me. It is disastrously ugly to me. See here https://imgur.com/a/Zx2FUMS

I understand the flue exist needs to be away from the window, but does it need to be so high? I have seen a lot of new builds were it is much lower, albeit at the back of houses. See same link https://imgur.com/a/Zx2FUMS. I am not sure of the best, nice looking better solution. I am considering asking for it to be run to the roof level, through a bedroom. Is that legal?

TGD Part J outlines the distances from windows and the like. From memory, its 300mm from a window. The second image you posted seems to be just achieving that. Your location is unfortunately <300mm.

You can rise internally and come out the wall at an appropriate spot. Without a visible stack outside. Coming out the roof is also possible. But a much bigger job. Would be easier to move the window.

There are also constraints on number of bends/ overall length of the flue which you need to check, may not be an issue here

Thanks a lot. I appreciate it a lot. Moving the window is a big job. I worry if I did that, Id have a lot of costs due to having the new window and the blockwork. If the flue pipe rises internally, can it go through a bedroom? I understand, it most not be boxed up. Is that correct? At some stage I had running a duct for MVHR boxed in downwards from the attic.

No bother, maybe replace the window with one with no ope and install an extractor further down, unless there are fire escape issues?

By the way, do you reckon that they flues could be installed 30cm below a front garden window? No fire escape issues.

Moving the window is def a not a small job was being slightly sarcastic to make the point that building a riser internally is also not a small job. I'd be looking for a local solution.

Exactly what you can do depends on the type of appliance (room sealed, gas open flue, etc).

300mm below the window in the OP as it is side hung. That increases to 1-3m if top hung. This is all in the TGD below. For a room sealed gas unit rising internally and exhausting above the roof, there is a specific separate standard (listing the in the TGD).

Thanks. It is actually a north facing window, so it does nothing for letting light but changing it sounds like a huge hassle.
