Upgraded to Business with points, won't refund for extra legroom seats?

I recently upgraded Aer Lingus flights x 2 from NYC to Dublin to business class using my Avios points but when I requested the refund for the 2 extra legroom seats €199.98 they refused? Anyone else encounter this before?

It happened to me in the past, almost the same as you. I used a tier benefit to get up the front but they would not refund me for the legroom seats in my original booking. Really annoying so if there is a hint that I might have enought points to upgrade I hold off paying extra for better seats.

Yep, been there with BA & Aer Lingus (before they were in IAG) and more recently with Qatar on no occasion could I get a refund. Always try but accept when I book the extra legroom seats that, if I do get the chance to upgrade nearer to flight time (points or cash) that I am unlikely to be getting refunded - I still prefer to have the assurance of the legroom just in case.
