Thumping in Water Pipes - any ideas?

I live in a duplex and as a result we have a water pump to maintain pressure up into the top floor of the house (which is the technically the third floor of the building).

Recently we've noticed an intermittent thumping noise that has become vastly more pronounced and more regular in recent days. The water pump was only replaced last year and when I switch it off I can still here the intermittent thumping, albeit not as loudly.

I think the thumping may either be originating either in the en suite loo or in the water tank in the attic (which is directly above the hot press and the water pump). Would anyone have any ideas of what the problem might be or the cost to repair? Also it is likely to be a serious issue that could result in flooding?

    Any feedback greatly appreciated

Knocking pipes, could be air in the system so try draining down and refilling or see if you have somewhere to try release air. Also could be caused by pressure being too high from pump or the pipes just physically moving and knocking off each other somewhere so they need to be fixed or wedged. Google will give you some ideas.

Pipe knock is quite common and usually caused by ballcocks slamming shut. Reducing the feed pressure should sort it but I also think that there are anti knock fittings with a diaphragm to absorb the pressure wave. Have to locate the source of the knock first.

    A problem for pressurised systems.

Did you sort out the pump problem you had in April of last year?, if not, may be connected with your present problem.

So it's only in the last few weeks the knocking happened so not sure it's linked to the pump being swapped out. How would I go about releasing the air from the system? Just run everything for 10 mins?
