Yes, we've kept in contact. And yes imho €25k for a Performance Model S is huge value for money.

And that's the donedeal price! We all know they accept a few K less if there's cash in your hand

Utter bargain there for someone who can jump in and wave the cash (or Revolut)!

Seller seems to have reduced the price from €30k and states ‘no offers’. But there’s always room for some negotiation

I see at least two Model S ads on Donedeal, including the one above, that mentions "battery replaced" by Tesla. Apologies if a silly question - I guess they are talking about THE big battery that powers the car? Probably replaced under warranty (which google says is 8 years / 150k miles, but not sure if that's for Ireland or US). Is the end of warranty period the reason for price drop I wonder.

Yes, the big HV / traction battery. And on all but the most recent Model S, the warranty was 8 years unlimited mileage. So the full 8 years. So if you buy a 2017 Model S with a million miles on it, it still has 2 years of battery and drivetrain warranty.

If the battery was replaced in recent years, the risk of it failing again is minimal. By far the most common reason for failure was water ingress, which was later sorted. Also even if the car is a write off, the battery modules (16 of them I think in an early Model S 85), are still worth around $900 each on eBay!

Battery replaced (with evidence) is a must on pre-facelift cars, otherwise I wouldn't touch one. Unless of course it is dirt cheap.

So would there be any warranty with the car then? Or as the previous poster said it is out of warranty?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,114 ✭✭✭✭unkel

On which, the 2014 Tesla Model S? No. It is over 8 years old now, so zero warranty left.

People are really hung up on the battery warranty. It's not like all 2nd hand cars are a risk.

I bought an 8 year old car a few years back. 6 months in the DMF started knocking and before I could get that looked at the Head Gasket went. Sucks but luck of the draw

What did it cost to fix and how long did it take to get back on the road?

It was going to be €2,000 for the DMF and can't remember the gasket price (another 2K plus more if it's not a straight forward swap?).

When I factored that in and a trade in I wasn't going to sunk cost it and bought a Volvo, which I am still driving years later with (touch wood) the only thing I've had to fix is a door lock actuator.

Admittedly it was a shitbox SantaFe but it just proves the point that 2nd hand is a gamble. I would feel safer buying that Tesla than my own Volvo presently (they are the same age), given Unkel has done all the remedials

What's the Ccs upgrade mentioned , please

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 7,281 ✭✭✭zg3409

It's a charging connector. CCS tends to be faster and more common connector these days so many older Teslas have change the connector on the car to CCS to allow charging at ionity and other sites with CCS only.

Early model S could only charge at a supercharger or with a chademo adapter.

CCS upgrade allows it to use the CCS too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,114 ✭✭✭✭unkel

And you can buy a CHAdeMO adapter (got mine brand new for €99 incl shipping from Tesla), which would give the above Tesla fast charging on EVERY SINGLE fast charge point in Ireland - CCS, CHAdeMO and Tesla Superchargers. No other car can do that, only Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X. And then there are well over 1000 "slow" charge AC points in Ireland where the car can still charge at 22kW. More versatile than any EV has ever been or ever will be...

Seems to be zero percent finance on Cupra in Bright (?) motors..

Mind you, the base price of the Born seems to be higher than other garages?

I ended up buying the P85 - car drives great and seems mechanically perfect and very well maintained.

The seller was a really nice guy and had some very nice things to say about you Unkel 😀

Only nitpick I have is with the front headrest design, which is non-tiltable - I’m going to have to find a solution to avoid getting a crick in my neck.. something like this product perhaps:

Congratulations and well wear. I spent most of yesterday afternoon mulling it over and by the time I finished mulling it was gone! I don't know if I'd have had the balls for it. You'll almost certainly have some ongoing maintenance costs but the overall cost of motoring for such a fantastic car will still be very low. I'm more than a bit envious.

Well wear @yoke - you got the car for an incredible price 😁

Did you ever take a look at the ID.3? I saw it went down from €25k at while back

I feel like at that price there's something wrong with it or the seller is trying to get rid of it quickly

Yep, looked at it and made an offer! In the process of buying it atm. Couldn't fault the car, the only issue was a small dent and the bumper to bumper warranty is basically up but the battery and drive train is good for another 70k kms so... 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 292 ✭✭bootser

Tbh I think I had a similar issue with a low price on my own I28!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,085 ✭✭✭Mr Q

I have an ID.3 and they are dropping in value very fast.

Had an offer from Autobuy in late May and another one this week. 4k difference in their offer over 2 months.

The ID3 (and the used EV market in general) has seen a drop in prices as they return to normal.

The reason for the ID3 is probably a combination of a facelift coming, it only being a 4 seater in most guises, and the tesla price drops.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,114 ✭✭✭✭unkel

And there are hundreds of ID.3 for sale. Only the best value ones will sell.

It's not just the electric car market that has fallen BTW, prices are hugely down everywhere and it's a total buyer's market. Can even see it in the vintage cars market. It's actually a bit worrying as very shy demand is usually not a good marker for the state of the economy.

There's only one spec of the ID.3 that's a 4 seater. The normal specs of ID.3 were 5 seats it was only the tour with the pano roof that was restricted to 4 seats.
