Perhaps only 26 seconds, but doesn't it say so much.

An $8 X dump no thanks

The fact that you refer to a former Olympian champion, who has long campaigned for women's rights in sport, as "an $8 X dump", demonstrates exactly the hatred and misogyny that characterises what is currently happening.

The movement to include biological males into women's sport is characterised not by logic and science and reason -- but by by anger, hatred, and vindictiveness. It's bigotry dressed up as human rights.

An Olympic Champion goes by the name TRIGGERnometry on 'X?'

    Really?

demonstrates exactly the hatred and misogyny that characterises what is currently happening.

What are you talking about? Honestly. I won't accept your doomscrolling crap from a decrepit website as evidence (this has been established for a while now) and that is Hatred? Misogyny? Huh?

She's a guest on show called Trigonometry?

She's a former champion who has been active in women's swimming since retirement?

I've no idea what X means

I'm not accusing you of misogny but your reply is not a great argument tactic to be fair. It looks like you can't argue with her logic so you avoid the argument by criticising the platform she is on.

I'm also cofused by an earlier answer you gave to one of my posts. Here's my previous post with your answer below it.

It is the material part of the topic because the penis, and the male puberty that goes along with it, gives males a significant physical advantage advantage over biological females. You know this. If you don't know this, then there is something wrong with you.

This significant physical advantage is unfair to biological females. They aren't competing on an equal footing because, and much and all as this will p1ss off some people, transwomen are biologically male.

I know you are looking at it from an ideological point of view in that you view transwomen = women so therefore they should be allowed to compete in the women's category. I have no problem with transwomen or transmen in general but sport is one area where the biologies should be separated.

    Your answer below:

I'm already in agreement with you on this.

Are you in agreement with the entirety of the post? If not, which parts do you not agree with?

Come on Overheal, I don't engage much on twitter at all, but even I could see that TRIGGERnometry is the poster of the tweet, not the olympian being interviewed, especially with the big clue of the olypian's handle being there as well. FYI, since you know so little about sport, Sharron Davies is the Olympian, to be clear. She was a very prominant athlete in the anglossphere on this side of the atlantic for many years.

For your benifit I got my hands dirty and actually went on to twitter to quickly find this non-twitter (Youtube) link for you to the full interview with Sharron Davies here.

No need to even leaave boards.

I'll just add one correction to the thread. She is not an Olympic champion. And of course the reason she is not is that she was cheated out of her gold medal by athletes immersed in the Eastern European PED programmes of the communist era. She recognises unfair competion in sport, and has the experience of being a very prominant victim of unfair competition in sport. There should be no doubting her credentials as a campaigner for fairness in sports. And that's what leads her to point out the unfiarness of male sex athletes competing in the female category in sports.

Ah I stand corrected on the "champion" part. But yes, the rest of your assessment is spot on.

The idea that her expertise on the matter should be ignored is the absolute height of absurdity.

Sorry no idea who you are talking about. “X” - like I said last week, Twitter is a DEAD SITE. I was correct.

Again what she are you referring to. Is TRIGGERnometry a woman, is the man in the thumbnail a trans athlete I should be familiar with? Paste the quote of what you think I need to consider. If it’s logical it shouldn’t matter who says it, if it matters who says it it is appeal to authority no? Why does something logical need to be said by an alleged Olympian and why does that detail matter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,683 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

That’s all well and good for her but what does she say that’s so unassailable in this big interview. Going from a X dump to an hour long video dump isn’t much better.

I've genuinely done my best for you here, explained who she is, given you the most relevant aspects of her sports history, where you got people's twitter tags mixed up, and provided a non-twitter link embedded right into the thread. There's an old saying, you can bring a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,683 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Just quote the salient bit? Otherwise thanks for the video dump. In the “X” clip she’s not talking about the Olympics she’s providing hearsay about schools sports. Her experience adds nothing to what she is asserting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,884 ✭✭✭Enduro

That's what the twitter post did!!!! it's a 27-second extract.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,683 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

But that’s just hearsay and has nothing to do with her “authority” as an Olympian. Literally hearsay and conjecture.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,855 ✭✭✭StrawbsM

Haha keep up the dismissal of the opinion of actual female Olympic swimmers, lads. Good job swaying people over to your way of thinking.

    😂 😂 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,683 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

So it’s mere opinion, conjecture, and hearsay. Again her being an Olympian had nothing to do with what she was trying to allege but keep up the appeal to authority fallacy.

    It's not hearsay.

We are hearing the words directly from Sharron Davies herself.

    It's certainly not "mere opinion".

You disregard Davies' informed opinion on Olympic-level sport; about the physical advantages that biological males have that females do not; and as someone who herself has experienced disadvantage in sport. I could go on, but her knowledge base on this subject is considerable and always worth listening to; is well-argued with evidence and reason; and who is very moderate and measured in her language given the often heated nature of the debate on this subject.

    But apparently you know best.

Her opinion can be conveniently trashed aside.

I know which opinion I would rather trust, and it's definitely, definitely not yours.

I thought trans women were not allowed to compete in swimming

They are allowed to complete in swimming. World aquatics rules are explicit in wlecomeing trangender athletes to compete. The rules are very clear. You can find them here.

Section G clearly outlines that transgender athletes are specificaly welcome to compete in swimming in the sex category for which they meet the eligibility requirements. The first words of G 5 are "Within those categories, gender diversity is welcome.".

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,922 ✭✭✭✭suvigirl

Thanks, but long to read right now, but I'll take a look later. From a quick glance, it appears transwomen can compete in women's races, so long as they never went through puberty? Very quick glance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,683 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

    It literally is hearsay

    It literally is opinion

Yes her mouth is flapping but what is coming out is hearsay, 'so many parents come to me and say things about their 11 year olds, I hear that, and I'm telling you now etc'

It's Hearsay. Do you not understand the definition?

Her opinion can be conveniently trashed aside.

Just like yours and mine! Opinions are like assholes: everybody has one! Some are bigger or tighter than others. But you can't have your own facts.

is well-argued with evidence and reason

    waiting for her evidence

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,109 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

She could produce all of the evidence in the world, and you'd still dismiss it, and instead waffle on about negro leagues.

That's pretty much my interpreation of the rules for that specfic scanario alright. It's alsways worth noting that Transwomen who have gone through male puberty should be eligible to compete in the Male sex category. It's certainly the case that their gender identity will not affect their eligibilty in any way. Either way, they can compete in swimming.

The rules are well worth reading. The introduction outling their approach and methodolgy shows the depth and range of thought and opinion that went in to formulating the rules. Both the approach and the ootput are a model of good practice in my opinion.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,922 ✭✭✭✭suvigirl

Yeah, they seem to have thought it through very well, I'll read through it all, thanks

Allowing males who have "blocked puberty" to compete in womens events may seem to be a reasonable compromise, but it's a very bad move which just kicks the problem down the road.

Proponents of the transgender agenda don't care about sports or sporting fairness. Their goal is to have society accept that males can be women and vice versa. Sports is merely one avenue they use to achieve this. You have to remember this throughout these discussions. (It's why Overheal's posts are so nonsensical)

If there is widespread acceptance of males who have "blocked puberty" being allowed to partipate in womens sports, this will be used as a stepping-stone to further their agenda.

Under no circumstances should males be allowed to compete in womens sports. No matter what medications they have taken or when they began taking them. Womens sports are for women.

What would you describe as a 'woman's sport' ?

    And what is their agenda?
